Swivel seat upholstery

Anyone have any experience with this company? The items offered look good onlin, any real world experiences? For what is offered the price seems reasonable just wish they had one for the insert type seats.

They are excellent Ebayers. I bought carpet & floor mats from them. I did not buy the seat cover from him because I thought he was the middle man. Even though he was cheaper then a competitor. I think the same person is making the covers.Look real good too. Hope this helps.... Take a look & tell me what ya think. Joe

Great info, yes they do appear to be the same. At least the e-bay site did not skyrocket the price, maybe they are one in the same? If anyone has used these kits let us know, the upholstery shops nearly faint around here at the mention of a (gasp!) swivel bucket, the usual response "yeah I have done those before, take alot of work" translation: get the pocketbook out

I am going to buy a full set of swivel seat covers as soon as I find a nice set of swivel buckets.... mine were lost in small barn fire where I bought the car. Joe

I ordered the upholstery kit offered through eBay back in September and got it about 5 weeks later. The material and stitching was pretty good, the only difference in the material being the inserts didn't have that smooth "wet-look" appearance on the 73s, but instead had a much smaller grain than the outer portion. (no big deal since the pattern matched the original perfectly, and the original insert material looked pretty thin to begin with). I checked around and found an upholsterer who had experience with swivels-took him about a week and a half to finish the job and they came out GREAT. The guy who did the work said the stitching at the junction where the cushion and seatback meet looked a lot stronger than the original.

I also made a point of cleaning and lubing the seat tracks, repaired the driver seat adjuster(wire broken) and cleaned the seatbelt buckles too.

The kit also includes enough crimping material (the stuff that goes along the edge of the seats and secures the cover to the plastic shell-looks like the old windlace that they used to put around door openings.)

All in all, worth the money to me.

swivel seat upholstery

Well, guys there is a whole long story about these seat covers. These were patterned from seats that I sent to the manufacturer which is Acme Auto Upholstery in California. It all started with The Parts Place in August 2003. I talked to them twice before I ordered to make sure they would be correct for a Cutlass. When I received the order they weren't even close. The Parts Place got tired of talking to me so they put me in contact with Acme and I found out that the covers were patterned from a Chevelle. The guy told me that he never intended that they be correct for a Cutlass, just a good seat cover that would work on swivel buckets and that is what he told his distributors that they needed to advertise. I told him that wouldn't work when you were restoring a car. I put together a whole book of measurements and pictures and sent a set of tan seats to him which came out of a friend's '73 442. The tan pictures you see in the adds are the actual covers that were sent to me. Well actually the first set. It took me a solid year to get a set that I could live with (August 2003- August 2004). (That would be 4 sets total) No they don't have the correct wet look vinyl. Another thing that is different is that the welting is not sewn in as is the original. You get a roll of welting which you have to push on after folding the vinyl around the metal seat frame. The A-1 add lists color combinations so maybe since 2004 the overall design has been improved but it is interesting that every add has my seats shown (pictures attached). I did my seats and they look good, but they are not perfect. Well anyway, that is the story. Well, the short version anyway.

Yes, they seem to be the most recommended manufacture of swivel seat covers, I will probably get mine from there. You cant find many places that will even put them on, my local guy said he would put mine on, and that he used to make them years ago before he got so busy but not now its too much work.

The best ones I have seen are the ones that Gary Campbell has in his car. Of course they were hand made by an upholsterer in Denver and I'm sure they were expensive. I had a set made here in 1990 and they were nice, but were expensive then. For the money these are pretty good. I would advise anyone buying to make sure they ask questions before buying so they will know what they are getting.

Great info Emory...

Getting upholstery correct is sooo darn difficult.
I ended going with the closest grain of leather to match the original vinyl on my interior, rather than some of the bad repop vinyl's out there. Spent some extra money, but was worth every penny.
