Exclamation Lost 73 442, last known Sandusky, ohio

She is Cranberry with white stripes, 350 Rocket, winter white wet-look interior, swivel buckets, automatic on the floor. Born Oct. of 72, Delivered to Bob White in Danville, Il. Purchased Nov. of 72 by Kenneth Hogan, then to me Nancy Hogan Uptmor Reed, then a dealer named Marlin in Champaign-Urbana, il., then Jeannine Reynolds (who was supposed to give me first buy back opportunity) then her son. He sold it about a decade ago to a man around Sandusky, Ohio. This spring an ad in Craig's list in Sandusky matched her perfectly. By the time I found the ad , it had been taken down. Please help!

She's out there & so close. If someone knows how to recreate her VIN by her features, I can find her.

It's always rare when people are actually able to match up with their cars! It has happened though, and it's happened here on this site! I wish you the best of luck and you can find her!

It will be hard to come up with a VIN based on features. You would need to know if it was based on the Cutlass or Cutlass S, and where it was built.

Click on the registry tab, next to What's New and Forum at the top of the screen and you can search the registry for examples of what the VINs look like and how they break down.

The colors, seating arrangements, etc. are not anything that would show up on a VIN.

It would start with a 3 for Oldsmobile division. Most likely have G37 for Cutlass S hardtop coupe, K for 350, 3 for 1973, then include a letter for where the car was built. (Lansing, MI would be M, for example) then it would have a six digit sequence number of when it came down the assembly line. That's about it.

So it would be most likely 3G37K3M******. That's about the best I could guess.

Bert nailed down the first 7 digits best he could for not seeing the car in ? for you Nancy.
Like Bert mentioned it would be very difficult to come up with the VIN numbers of your car. Not to mention, some cars came off the line with mis-matched VIN's.
My 76 Olds VIN on the car was different than on my ownership, ya' and that was in 76.
I hope you can track it down through social media, that would be the quickest way IMO.

Just a few thoughts to try.

    - if you know someone at DMV, run a history on your name and see what comes up. As it was a long time ago, may be before things were on computer.
    - check old insurance documents from long ago if you have any. Should show vin #.
    - ask insurance company for your history. Maybe they will still have something on the car in history.
    - ask previous owner if they have any old docs with vin number.
