I just got some buckets for my 73 bench seat car. Does anyone make conversion brackets for our car? I see them for older Cutlass' but not ours. Anybody swapped out seats before that can lead me in the right direction.
Thanks,Chris

i have yet to find anyone that made these either.....here's what i had to do because mine also came with a bench seat.....only ONE hole of the bench seat mounting points lines up with the swivel buckets, that being the front outside foot of each side.....i had a friend weld me a piece of strap metal with a hole drilled into it and a nut welded to the underside to each of the inside front edge points on the floorboard. on the driver's side there is actually a little 'valley' in the floorpan where a piece of metal can be welded across....on the passenger side there is a similar location, but no 'valley' to speak of....as for the rear mounting points, i took the easy way and just drilled new holes through the floorboard where the buckets would mount and used big washers and stainless bolts to hold it in place....probably not the proper way to do it, but hey, it works....

These are just regular buckets not swivel, I dont know if it makes a difference or not.

well, even so, having had a bench seat in it prior, you will not have the inside edge mounting points for the buckets since a bench seat used only the 4 outer edges for mounting, at least mine didn't.....

This is the part I was referncing. I think I could buy this and chop/weld to make it work. Has anyone done it this way, or is the way that was just described common practice.
Thansk, Chris

I converted my '76 from bench to buckets/console. The 2 outer points should work with strato type buckets, you'll have to fab up some brackets for the inners like Larry said. I made patterns from cardboard to make my brackets [use thick gauge sheet metal] I used a blob of silicone on each end to hold them in place, after that cured I set the seats in place, started both outer bolts [you'll need the seatbelt retractors in place, they are the mounting point for the rear outboard location] marked the location of the inners with a sharpie, pulled the seats back out, removed the temp installed brackets, drilled a hole through the marked spot and welded a bolt on them. Then welded the brackets in there proper [marked/outlined] location on the floorpan. I don't know if you can understand this [my rambling] or not, you can also find a donor car and cut the brackets out of it, but you'll still need to make sure they line up right. That was the easy part, the console brackets on the other hand..........
