I have a 75 Cutlass, that I always thought was a 350 4bbl. A friend of mine told me that because I have a K for the 5th in my VIN I have a 6.6 Ltr 303 engine. Can anyone tell me if he is right. I really would love th know what engine I really have. It has been in my family sence new so I know the engine has never been even looked at other than reg. service. 56,000 miles.

In 1975, a K for the 5th digit of your VIN means you have the 350, 4BBL, 180 HP.
The 6.6 L was a 403 and not available until 1977.

If you had a 77, the K in the 5th digit would be a 403. Hope this helps!

Actually, the 403 was available as an option in any Cutlass model in 1977. It was also in 98's, Toronado's, and probably Delta 88's. Pontiac used the Olds 403 in the Trans-Am. I'm not a Pontiac expert, but I think it was the standard engine for the Trans-Am sold in California and the engine used in the high altitude package for cars sold in areas like Denver.

My 77 Cutlass Supreme Brougham has the 6.6 liter 403 engine and I have heard rumor that the olds 403s were mostly a webbed block design but their has been some hint of a solid block 403 somewhere and its pretty rare. I have had 2 403 engines and they have both been of the webbed design. Anybody else hear of this ?

Most 403's had windowed main webs. It's rumored that a few very early production 403's had solid main webs. Supposedly these ended up in GMC motorhomes and full size station wagons ???

According to some records, the solid main web 403 engines were only used in cars that were ordered with Heavy Duty Cooling, A/C and possibly the towing package. Therefore it would most likely be a full size wagon or a motor home like Gary mentioned. I learned this from Joe Mondello a few years ago. He says he has 2 of them...

10-4 , I was aware of the other 403 info, but do not follow the 76-77 cutlass as much. Could be a regional thing too, as I've followed up on alot of southern Oldsmobiles. Thanks for the schooling.

Yep, and Buick got them for the Electra, LeSabre, and Riviera. I think it's probably hard to find them in LeSabres. My 403 came from a Flint-built Buick (and appears to be factory-painted Buick turquoise too  ).
