Hi all,
I am getting ready to purchase a Dual Gate shifter set up and had a few questions. Concerning the top plate parts, what do I need to buy to make it complete? Does anyone have a good close up of the shifter installed? THanks STeve

Steve,

There are a few things that might be hard to come by. One is the light housing that goes under the Dual Gate shifter plate. So you can see what the heck you are doing at night. I don't know that anyone reproduces it, It was steel painted white originally to reflect under the legend. (See attached)

The other is the bracket that holds the shifter body and bolts to the floorboard.

You might be best served to get a whole assembly from a parted out car 73-75 with shift cable and trans. brackets.

And you might check out Eric's 73hurstolds.com and select HO Options once there. To see the Dual Gate in a Cutlass console larger just mouse click on the photo.

I've got a Dual Gate out of a 75 Hurst Olds loose that I can shoot pictures of in a few days if need be. Just let me know what you need.

Cool thanks for the info. I think I need the bracket for the shifter. I am going to the junk yard Saturday to get another console so I can keep my original one original.....

Ok I'll get you some pictures of it with and without shifter.

The console idea is a good one. You will need to cut the stock upper plate to clear for the Dual Gate. But not to much. You'll need to leave enough material on it to still have it retained by the shifter plate's retaining screws.

Someone else might have a loose one of the Hurst modified console upper plates to show you that modification.

I ordered the parts from The Parts Place. The top plate comes with the emblem and lense, so I might need the light stuff too. The shifter doesnt specify if it comes with the bracket, I need to call when they reopen tommorrow. I jumped the gun when ordering it, I had a 10% discount the was expiring today. I may need the bracket to mount the shifter.

Here is what I got.

Sweet looking parts! Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like the bracket is there, may not be the correct 73-75 one though? If you don't mind me asking, how much did these set you back and did they have the parts in stock? TIA

I think I saw someone making the lighting "Funnel". I hope it wasn't out of plastic! You know it might be the GTO guy's. I love when they spend their money repoping things we need. :D

The blue lens with aluminum legend might be sold by H&H.

The angle on the tunnel and the angle on the console would take some time to fabricate the lower bracket without a pattern. It's a big honking bracket.

I think that DG is for a 70-72 and the one I have might be a little different.

I'll get you some pictures.

The shifter is for 70-79 and the top plate is for 73-77 cars. The shifter ws 399.00, the top plate was 129.00 and the shifter cable was 59.00 thru The Parts Place. The top plate was a little more than others but they are the only one who had the 73-77 stuff. I hope they are in stock, order online becuase they are closed till 1/2 and i wanted to use the discount. I have a bad habit of once I want it I simply go out and get it, and I have been wantong a dual gate for a while. My x-mas present to me!

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to decide whether to try and restore the top plate I have or get the repop. Let us know how the deal went and the quality, fit etc. if possible. Again, TIA.

I see those light housings listed on eBay from time to time. Some one is reproducing them. I think they go for about $19.99. If it isn't listed right now, keep checking. I always see them every couple of weeks or so.

I don't have H&H's contact info handy. I think Fusick carries their stuff. But the one our cars use is not in their catalog.......And if H&H doesn't make it yet. Then they need a suggestion, because all the vendors are looking for new items to make constantly. To keep the ball rolling. And this type of thing is exactly what they already do.

If the light housing is the same as a 70-72 then Paddock sells it for 20.00.... Anyone know if they are the same?

OK This shifter was pulled from a 1975 Hurst Olds in the local Pick Your Part self service junkyard a few years back.

I had it rebuilt by Hurst when Mr. Gasket was it's parent.

It should be the same one to use for 1973-77.

The one photo is to show the lense that should be in the reproduction shifter plate.

I hope this helps.

Yogi442,
The part number thru The Parts Place is CP1596T.

76HOProposal,
Thanks for the pics, I think the only thing I need to order is the light housing.

I looked at the sight for The Parts Place last night. Must say I was impressed with the selection they have for our years. Does anyone else have feedback for this company? I am told that they post on the Buick V8 forum from time to time. The parts for the dual gate look to be of good enough quality I would consider a swap for my 76. Keep us posted on the conversion. I am in need of the shift indicator for my 75. I saw H&H mentioned I will look for that if anymore info arrises please post.

H&H have some parts for the 68-72 but nothing for our yrs on the website. I found there add on 442.com and just older stuff. I may give them a call soon to see if they have anything for our cars. I will post up pics when I am done with the install. Just waiting for the stuff to arrive... I hate waiting! :(
