Has anybody repaired a rusted out section above their windshield? I have a pretty good amount of rusted through area where the vinyl top used to be. It looks like I may need to weld in some patches, but would need the part the very edge, and also the channel that the windshield sits in. If i can find a donor car with this section good, it doesn't seem like it would be too much to weld it in, and it would be covered by the new vinyl top. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Chris

One of my car wrenching buddies had this exact problem with his 1973 Grand Prix and didn't discover it until the trim shop guy peeled off his old vinyl top and a portion of the front edge of the roof came with it. Because of time constraints with the trim shop he didn't have time to fix it himself with the help of me and my new welder. I thought we could do it, but it rained alot(setting records) here in North Texas earlier this year and the trim guy wanted it out of his shop so off to the body man it went. He had a body shop weld up the rusted area with patches they made and only spent about $350. The damaged area was about 8" long and maybe 2 or 3" deep and needed the windshield lip fabricated for almost the whole 8" inch length. I saw it before and after. Seems pretty straight forward. I think I could have done it if given the time. I don't know how bad your damage is but if it's extensive a patch from a donor might be best. Otherwise making small patch pieces and welding them in one at a time can provide good results if you have patience. Good luck.

It sounds like about the same problem. Mine is about double that though. I have almost the whole area on top gone.
