I've seen the question come up a few times. I came across this copy today.

Compaticolor was the factory's Interior Trim Appointment.

The interior parts that get this coordination of color are:

The Instrument Panel (Dash Pad) and Steering Wheel, Steering Column, Carpeting, Kick Panels, Rear Filler Panel (Rear Package Shelf), Seat Belts and Headlining. There might be a few more that vary from year to year, but you get the idea.

This is where Compaticolor is noted on my car.

My 1976 has a (19X) on the body tag on the line directly under the car's paint codes. 19 = Black

My car has the compaticolor interior and that is where my car is Saddle tan (camel) and the remainder is light buckskin, except the seat inserts which have a pretty hideous plaid pattern.(think SNLs,"a couple of wild and crazy guys" pants but in green plaid) Of course I have located a NOS supply of this awful looking plaid and plan to have the inserts redone with it. I don't think anyone else wants this material. The guy at the upholstry supply was surprised I wanted it. Should give the 76 442 a real disco feel.

Texxas- I think Compaticolor was white seats/door panels with other components colored to match/harmonize with the car's exterior. The 1976 Sales Handbook shows 1976 Compaticolor components were:

Filler panel (package tray), carpeting, kick panels, instrument panel, and steering wheel and column. The Compaticolor accents were Lime, Blue and Dark Saddle (all models), Mahogany (all models except Starfire) and Red (Starfire only). There's a note says unless a specific color is ordered, the White interior would come with black components.

Your car has the standard AG cloth trim- Morrocceen vinyl with "Osborne" plaid cloth. It was available in:

Buckskin for G37 coupe bucket seats

Blue and Buckskin for G37 coupe bench seat

Blue, Black and Mahogany for the G29 sedan

My folks had a white 76 S sedan with Mahogany vinyl roof and plaid interior. When they brought it home, I said "plaid seats?" (they were pretty conservative people). Mama said "You don't like my plaid seats? You don't have to drive the car then, do you?" Mama, I think your plaid seats look very nice (Eddie Haskell voice). When I went thru her clothes and stuff after she died, I then remembered how much she liked plaid- truly of Scots descent.

My Sales Handbook has the price list for initial 1976 shipments plus some updates. Anyone wants to know what their 1976 options originally cost, give me an options list and I can probably find it for you.

I'm sure your probably right :o but I thought I read somewhere in my 76 literature about compaticolor and that my interior coordinated with the exterior colors of my car by having green in the plaid to go with my upper body color and the buckskin which matches my lower body color. The filler panel (package tray), carpeting, kick panels, instrument panel, and steering wheel and column(center console also) are dark saddle on my car just as you listed. It is just that the rest is light buckskin, not white. I understand what you and Bob are saying about compaticolor. I recently saw a 75 H/O on eBay that had a white and red (instead of black) interior. I believe this is the compaticolor option but the exterior was white not red of course.
Did compaticolor show up on the build sheet? I have mine and have posted it on the board under build sheet locations. Board won't let me post it again here.
At first I wasn't going to redo the plaid in the seats, I was just going with buckskin inserts to match the rest of the material on the seats but my buddy redid the seats in his 73 455 Buick Regal. It had a black and white houndstooth pattern when new and 2 years of searching failed to locate any NOS material and his was filthy. He ended up using some NOS material for a (was it 1997?) 30th anniversary Z/28 that is a slightly bigger pattern of houndstooth but very close to the original Buick pattern. It is the single biggest stylistic point that really makes the car show its 1973 vibe. I loved it. I started looking for the "osborne" plaid the next day. You don't see it much anymore so it should set my car apart, at least more than an all vinyl buckskin seat would. Now I just need to get the money together to do it, my trim guy wants $350 a seat to do the swivel buckets with my NOS supply of the material and I didn't even ask about the rear seat.
