I thought it would be interesting to hear about the unusual Cutlasses we have seen over the years (engine/tranny combos., unique options, etc.)

A couple I have seen come to mind. One was a `75 Supreme w/inline 6 and 3 speed on the column. The whole car was for sale at a junkyard (at least they didn't part it). They wanted $1500 for it if I remember. It was beige with tan interior.

Another unusual car was also in a junkyard. It was a white (could of been repainted) `73 442 that was built on the plain Cutlass body, NOT a Cutlass S. VIN code was F37 instead of G37. They made under 200 `73 442's on the F37 body. Unfortunately this car was wrecked (I was told someone lost control on a dirt road and put it in a ditch). This car was bare bones - hardly any chrome trim and it had a rubber floor mat instead of carpet. It was a 350 w/ automatic and bench seat 442. It did have air cond. though. At least a couple friends and I got some good parts of this car.

What unusual cars have you guys seen?

I'd like to think my 73 is pretty unusual, especially compared to yours. The red paint stands out, yet the interior with bench and column shift made no sense to me. Why did someone bother to get the special paint, but not check off ANY OTHER OPTIONS??? I wish I could find out more history on the car, that's for sure. Someday, my friend. Someday. They would still look awesome sitting side by side though!

I don't know if it's that unusual, but my first car [1979] was a '74 Salon 4dr. light green with green bucket seat/console interior. It had the fat cloth reclining buckets, 350/350 with just about every option but a sunroof. Not to put you guys to sleep, but I was working at my old man's service station at 18 & Woodward and the lady that I bought it from was a customer that worked in the offices behind the station. She bought it new and drove from Canada everyday. It had a ton of miles, but she took great care of it [I think I paid $400 for it]. I hav'nt really seen another 4dr. like it, it was a Canadian car so maybe that's why.

I'll give it up for 4 door first cars! I still have mine! I've never seen one with a console and buckets though. That would be cool.

Bert, I thought the same thing. Not that I've been researching it over the years but the buckets/console seemed a little different in a 4dr. or a "pic a door" as a local car celeb type guy calls em. That car was really nice, I wish I still had it...........along with a list of others :( .

Very cool! The reason why it was a console/bucket seat car was because it was a Salon. All Salons whether 2 or 4 doors had consoles and reclining bucket seats. The Salon was Oldsmobile's answer for a European type car touring package. A friend of mine had a `73 Salon (they were only available in 4 drs. that year). It had the 455, TH-400, and a 3.23 posi. It also had the console and reclining bucket couches, I mean seats! :p It was a good solid car from northern Colorado. Not much rust at all and ran good except for a nasty exhaust leak. I wanted to buy it to make the race car out of (DONUTRUN could've been a `73 instead of a `75). He wanted more than I wanted to pay for the start of my race car though. The car didn't sell so he PARTED it!

Bert - Special paint code definitely qualifies as unusual! To find out more history on your car, have you tried doing a title search with the Colorado DMV? They're not exactly easy to work with, but I was able to track my car back to the original owner, since it was a CO car since new. You may also want to try talking with the people at Classical Gas (not sure if they're still in business) since they had your car for sale at one time. They may still have some old records. We gotta get the cars side by side so we can take pics of the red white and blue!

That explains it........actually I knew that with the 2drs. but wasn't sure on the 4drs. I don't believe there were as many 4dr Salons as 2drs? Thanks for the heads up Gary.
