Peeps: Yesterday around Noon, I drove my 77 S to the train station as I always do- no problems. When I started the car up to go home 6 hours later, the engine was running a lot faster than it usually does. It's like the throttle seems to be stuck slightly "on." I didn't even have to give it much gas when shifting gears (I have a 3-speed manual w/231 V6). While in gear and driving, the car was fine, but when I was stopped, or when I let the clutch in to shift, it would go right back to higher revs. If regular idle is 1000 rpm, then this felt like 1800 (not sure because I don't have a tach!...Yet).

Ideas on how this happened? It's not like there was a big tenperature change or anything.

Do I just need to adjust the idle screw? How and where?

I'm a little familiar with your puny little engine(I had one in a 75 Buick Skylark that I paid $25 for) but I'd say check the choke linkage on the carb, sounds like the choke is stuck on the first step. If it does it next time you start the car, pop the gas pedal sharply with your foot and see if this will release the choke. If it doesn't you will have to check it out under the hood. I think your car has a Dual jet 2 barrel carb and I don't remember the layout of that carb exactly, it's been 10 years since I rebuilt one of those. Good luck... and Happy Halloween:eek:
