Hey all- I have a 3-speed MANUAL, column shift in my '77 Cutlass S. The motor is a 231 V6.
The transmission is stuck in first! HOW DO I FIX THIS?! This has happened a couple times, and I just reach under the hood, and there is a piece of the linkage on the firewall that I push and the thing pops back into place.
This is the same linkage that connects from the column shifter to the actual transmission (I can see where it connects underneath the car).
Now, it won't budge, and I don't want to force it. What to do? I'm sure this will be mucho $$$ at a shop, even though it's something simple. Is there some spray lubricant I can use? Everything looks pretty greased up, by the way, so I don't think that's it.
P.S. The disaster part of this is that, if my parents get wind of this, my car collection is finished. : (
