View Full Version : 73-75 H/O Ornament
74 H/O

Hello all. I am new to the list. I just purchased a 74 Hurst Olds, and I'm wondering if it has the correct hood ornament. I have seen about four variations of the ornament intended for these cars. Can anyone send a photo of the original one that came on these cars when they were new?

Look at item number 230182696468 on eBay. Is that a genuine H/O ornament? The ones sold at Fusick Automotive have no base, and the "Oldsmobile" font is different on the emblem.

I don't think that is an original. I have my original in the garage. I'll see if I can get you a picture of it. It mounted with a spring underneath so it would flex. It did not have a nut and bolt. The Olds script on that one looks a little off too.

Since the question has been asked I'll add another, several of the H/O's recently sold on line also have an ornament the has the H/O instead of the Olds script. Same apparent shape and size as the former mentioned. Anyone have info on this? One I saw was on a car that was listed as an original 20k 75 H/O. If I can dig the pics up I will post them later.

73 HO hood ornament. Here is a pic of original (left) and Fusick ornament (right). Very close to original. I can not locate my original base. I think the bases are a little different.

Here is a picture of the 73 HO hood ornament in the 73 HO brochure. The base looks taller on the original.
As far as the hood ornament, I think Bob answered that above. The story I heard was Hurst wanted the Hurst ornament and Olds wanted the Olds ornament. Olds won out and the Hurst ornaments were modified, as Bob described above, or simply offered as an item to purchase from Hurst to put on your HO. I do not think there were any 73 HOs sold from Oldsmobile dealerships with the Hurst ornament. The 73 HO vendor list includes two hood ornaments. One from Automotive Prototype (the replacement Oldsmobile script possibly) and one from Hurst Performance. 1500 of each ornament were listed according to the vendor list.

Enough said all the way around. Are people helpful on this site or what? Wow!

Bob,
Are you saying the Hurst ornaments were made long before the 73 HO?

Here is the picture of my original hood ornament of my 74 Pace car replica. I can't find the base. The center plastic piece is in surprisingly good shape but the chrome pot metal ring is pretty pitted especially for a part that was from a Texas car. I think these were pretty poorly made originally.
