This is a classic short by the National Film Board of Canada. It is a true story of a French-Canadian family in 1946 Quebec. Classic rival for two of Canada's hockey teams. Part of the script was even on the back of the $5 bill. Hope you like it. :D

Very cool, I remember my dad telling me about my grandad listening to hockey night in Canada on the radio when he was a kid and the broad cast was in French. Of course when and where I grew up we all wanted to be Bobby Orr.
Hockey is in the blood.

I say we get rid of all the BS teams and get back to the origanl six.
Detroit Red Wings
Montreal Canadiens
Toronto Maple Leafs
Boston Bruins
Chicago Blackhawks
New York Rangers
Does Florida need a Hockey team hell no, along with Teaxs and all the other non-snow states.
But hey thats just my 2 cents.

I'm with you. 12-15 teams would be nice.

I think you may have over priced your knowledge there. If we use your reasoning, then we should probably get rid of all the BS Olds too. We should just have the curved dash models.
Give me a break.

Bring the North Stars back to the North Star State.
So they could go bankrupt? The Stars won't be going anywhere. Stars games here often sell out and just because we don't have regular snow(Thank God) doesn't mean we haven't adopted hockey. The Stars have helped with all five of the Dr. Pepper Stars Centers around the area, which are all usually fully booked. Many area high schools now have hockey teams in addition to football, baseball, soccer, and track. NHL players will soon come from this area of the country. One of the parks near me at White Rock Lake has converted about half the tennis courts to roller hockey because of the demand. The city of Mesquite has a large hockey complex for tournaments. Hockey nets and kids playing street hockey are everywhere. This wasn't true here in the early nineties but it is now. The Stars have been in the playoffs every year but one (I think) since winning the Stanley cup in 99 and usually end up playing Edmonton in the first round, except for last year.
True hockey fans should be looking to expand the reach of the sport not suppress it. I was so happy when hockey moved to the Dallas area. I lived in Chicago for a couple of years in the mid 70's took skating lessons the whole 2 years I lived there, played hockey(not very well) and went to as many Blackhawk games as I could talk my dad into taking me to. I still have a puck that I grabbed when it came over the glass into the stands.
I look forward to the NHL adding more teams someday.
GO STARS!

Seems I upset someone with my comment. You know damn I have no problem with teams that moved due to money. I also understand that all the snowbird who live in the north in the summer and the south in the winter need a team to cheer for. Nevertheless, that is not the point the point is it was my opinion sorry if you do not agree. Furthermore, the expansion teams are the problem i.e. throwing crap on the ice and ruining the history of chucking an octopus after a goal here in Hockey Town. I am sure this is because of the fans and not the teams them selves.

Not upset.:p ( I guess I should have used more smilies) I just thought having 6 hockey teams is crap. That opinion is yours, you shouldn't apologize for it if you stand behind it. 6 hockey teams, good one.
There are bound to be a few growing pains with expansion but it is worth it. Recent baseball television ratings have not been good. I think it is a good time to get some new hockey fans interested in the sport. At least to me, hockey on TV is much more exciting than baseball on TV. You watch your team, I'll watch mine. GO STARS!

When the North Stars moved to Dallas I thought the team should have been called the Lone Stars. How many NHL teams have names that are associated with their city or area? What is a Red Wing and what association does it have with Detroit? Unless it's an historical Indian tribe like the Black Hawks.
Before Colorado got the team from Quebec, they were called Nordiques. What the hell is a Nordique? "Nord" in French means north, so I asume it means "someone from the north". That is specific. The Maple Leafs, OK, the Canadiens...yeah that is historical because that is what the French speaking inhabitants around Montreal called themselves after a generation in the new world. They did not consder themselves French (as some had never been to France).
Bruins...what relation is that to Boston? Bears? Bears are all over North America. Flames? Worked for Atlanta because the Yankees burned it down, during the American Civil War, but in Calgary? It would work for Toronto as they have more flamers than Calgary does :D Senators work as Ottawa is Canada,s capital. Rangers??? Islanders works, so does Avalanche for Colorado. Stars work I guess as the Tx. flag has a star. Kings, Ducks, Panthers??? Are Panthers native to Florida? I think some teams didn't think it through.
Go Habs

Texas is the Lone Star state because we were once our own country. Panthers are native to Florida. I believe there are a few left in the everglades.
It finally got a little chilly here, 40s at night, feels a little more like hockey weather. Leaves aren't off the trees yet though.

Leaves are almost all off here. That reminds me, I have to pick them up. I'm glad to hear that hockey is becoming popular in TX. In Montreal it is a religion. In the Bell Centre they won't hang any banner unless it's a Stanley Cup banner or a retired jersey. I remember my dad bringing me to Canadiens' games when I was a kid. He knew most of the players and pick up a Jean Beliveau hockey stick signed by Jean Beliveau, Yvon Cournoyer, Frank Mahovolich and Rejean Houle. The puck and stick are what Jean Beliveau scored his 495 goal with. :D
