Hi! I am gathering parts for an engine rebuild (as I can afford it), and I stumbled on this source for headers. I'm not even sure I want to go with headers as they can be a pain in the butt, but I thought I might see if any of you guys could give me some insight.

I have a 75 supreme that I am going to go .030 out, flat tops cam, intake, 7a heads. The question is, Has anyone ever had any experience with Sanderson blockhugger headers? How do they fit? Leaks?

Never used the Sanderson headers. The main problem I have had with headers on Olds motors is heat soak on the starter from the headers. The header runs so close to the starter that the starter gets hot after the engine has been running awhile. I've tried a few heat shields in the past but they don't seem to help much. I have coated headers on my 94 25th Anniversary Trans Am and I like them so I may have the headers on the 442 coated and see if that helps the hot start problem some. You may have to run a shorter oil filter as the stock length filter will interfere with the headers. I run a filter speced for an AMC motor. It is shorter and fits just right.

I have Sanderson headers on my V8 S10 and like them. I think Sanderson is a good quality header. The set on my S10 are thermal coated and the coating is very durable. I do not have experience with Sanderson Headers on an Oldsmobile. I have Hedman Headers on my 73 HO. I have had some trouble with leaks around the flange at the cylinder head on my HO with the Hedman Headers. I use AC PF24 oil filters on the HO and the filter has clearance, but is a total pain to remove around the headers and transmission cooler lines once it is unscrewed from the block.

Are you sure the block hugger headers will fit your car? I think the block hugger headers from Sanderson are made for street rods, not late model cars with a cross member. I know long tube headers like the ones from Headman will work. I have no problem with starter heat soak or oil filter access. The main problem is ground clearance!
