Makes for some good reading and somewhat interesting specs on the torque end.

Love it!
"Based on prior experience with big-block Olds engines, we expected a torque monster, and we weren't disappointed
An Olds 455 makes so much low-end torque it's almost impossible to hurt the bottom end

I would like to hear how that stacks up to how BTR or Dick Miller would build the same motor. Usually the Olds offering isn't done the way a true Olds builder would do it and consequently shows less than its full capabilities. It is nice to see that Olds is still being considered in Ch*vy Craft..I mean Car Craft from time to time!

Every so often Camaro Craft does something different than the normal Chevy stuff.

As disscussed before in the past, thats the same basic build featured in all the magazines using the same basic parts. Basicly regurgitating (sp?) what everyone else has already printed. Why you ask ? Well it's simple, sponsers. The guys paying the bills. Think about it. If they had gotten advise from BTR, Rocket Racing or one of the other Olds performance specific vendors then it would have been built alot differently and making alot more power. The numbers these builds produce can be done with OEM cast iron heads and less money. Other then the Engine Masters builds you will never see another Olds build up article making real power. It's always the same basic regurgitated build up.

My buddy's 72 W-30 makes 475 hp with Ga heads, a W-30 intake and factory Q-jet. The lower end of his motor is the same as most of the articles. Heavy azz TRW L2323F-30 pistons on factory rods and using the factory noduler 455 crank. Nothing special here. It's a real W-30 wieghing in around 4000 lbs with him in it. Has run many 11:70's-11:80's. All motor. Street driven and featured in a few magazines such as Hemmings Muscle car and Car Craft. It's Saddle Bronze with Saddle Brown interior. Here's a link to our club website. Most of thises guys running into the 11's are using OEM cast heads. Never mind my 73, the page is old and that car is long gone.

Much more believeable. I don't believe the numbers from the 09 build for a minute.

Did a 455 in May with Edelbrock heads, a small hyd roller (234/240 at .050) and the same intake and compression but with an 870 Street Avenger. Made 455hp and 508 tq, (carb was too big imo). That's more believeable.
