Does any one know why magna flow makes a system for 73 Monte Carlo and Chevelle, and not thru 1977? And will that system fit my 1977 442. I can't see why it wouldn't. I've bought their kits before, there is a lot of cut and weld going on to make them bolt on. I don't know for sure but aren't the under pinnings all the same on 1973-77 GM A-bodies?

I just had mine done at an exhaust shop with some flowmaster 40s.
$319.70 complete from headers back.
The guy said that this is a very common style and alot of the gm cars in that range were about the same. Meaning the bends that go over the rearend.
Im not sure if the Monte is the same but Im pretty sure the 73 chevelle is.

I've never found an off the shelf custom exhaust system for 73-77 A-body. I had one custom bent at an exhaust shop for my 442 several years ago.
Maligoon - regarding the rear ends, my 73 442 was bone stock when I got it and it has a Chevy type (with C-clips) rear end. Date codes match when the car was built so I'm sure it's been in the car since day one. I've seen other Cutlasses with Chevy type rears in them too. GM was progressing with the Corporate GM era and the various makes of GM A-bodies could have whatever type of rear end put under it when the car was built. All types of rears are listed and discussed in the Olds Service Manuals.

i just installed a MagnaFlow 15894 Performance Kit in my 77 cutlass and it fit perfect!!!!!!! i am so fired up over it. you just have to cut and the inlet pipes to the correct lenghth. it was so easy to install. the only thing i did not like is they sent no stainless steel clamps with this stainless exhaust. it don t make much sense. i will ne replacing there clamps with stainless ones

Do any of you guys have trouble finding a shop that will put headers on your 76-77 cutlasses & 442's with dual exhaust. I know here in Ohio, you have to have a converter on the car. That's probably why they are not listed that those exhaust kits will fit our 76's & 77's.

It's a $10K plus fine from the Feds IF they find out that an exhaust shop removes a cat so most of them play by the rules if they do not know you. I would too if I were them!
The manufacture's will list the proper exhaust for the year model car and list them Cat Back for cars originally equipped with Cats because they have to. Many also make "Off Road" front pipes for cars that are not legal for "On Road" use. Many of us have "Illegal" cars with "Off Road" front H Pipes and no Cats!
The reality is that the new aftermarket cats flow so good that including them in the exhaust system is not a big deal. Expensive deal but not a big performance robbing deal.

Since Ohio got rid of e-check you dont Have to run a Cat. But most franchise shops follow the rules. You pretty much gotta find a place that is a mom and pop shop and hope they are into cars :) On a side note I just put a new set of Hooker Super Comps on my 77. 3 1/2 collectors then goes down to 2 1/2 straight pipes with a pair of flowmasters dumping at the rearend. But this is a race car that gets drivin on the street not really a cruiser.

I used the summit header back system on one of my 75's with no cutting or any issues. It's not the best quality but works just fine.

For the 74 Hurst, I'm hoping to use these components, but not so sure on the tails.
