It depends what you are looking for. There are numbers all over the car. This gets really confusing when you are trying to figure out what's what. Some things are easy to match with the car, as they contain the VIN or parts of it. Others aren't so easy to tell if they originally came with the car. The best you might be able to do with that is match it with a date code. You can type in your VIN, which we can decode. You can also type in your body tag information which is found on the cowl, on a plate in front of the windshield on the passenger side and we can decode that. The body tag will have numbers designating the paint code. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can check out the cardomain site of my 442 below, I have a picture of mine. If you want to see if the engine matches, there is a small plate on the drivers side of the engine by the #1 spark plug that should have numbers stamped which contain part of the VIN. That's a good place to start. Keep us posted. Good luck.

Hey Jen,
Bert gave you some good info. The most straight forward thing to look at is the cowl tag. It will have some option codes, paint codes, assembly date code (week and month) of the body, etc. The other main thing to check is the pad on the front driver's side of the engine (below the alternator if your car is equipped with air cond.) There will be part of the car's VIN stamped into the pad. If you've got a "numbers matching" car, the VIN and the code stamped on the engine will... match! :D
There's codes on the transmission, on the rear end housing, carburetor, distributor, etc. etc. etc.
We're here to help! :)
