Nice low mileage 77 442.

After looking at the pictures a second time I see that the hood has chrome trim down the center and I don't think that front header emblem is right either. The ad text says the car hasn't been in any accidents.

Very nice car! Could you order a landau (half) vinyl top on a `77 Cutlass S or 442?

Might be a Canada thing, eh? :D

Sharp looking car. I've seen 442's with the vinyl tops before, seems like they were full vinyl though? I've never seen a 442 with the center hood chrome, thought that was just the Supreme/Salon piece. I have that same header emblem on my '76 442 [H/O replica] and it looks to be original, but who knows?

I looked at a 77 442 in NE 2 years ago and it was all original and it had the center hood chrome. How do you find out if that was an option or not. At least I was able to see the silver and red combination because that is what my vin says mine is suppose to be. Just wondered how well they went together. I think the white and red really looks brighter, but I am an original kind of car collector so I think I will take it back to it's vin color.

Never thought I would ever see a Cutlass like that around here with such low miles and in such good condition. Maybe I didn't have to go all the way to Virginia to get mine.

I have the center hood chrome on my '76 Supreme and it matches up to the hood ornament. I didn't think it would look right on a sloped header without a hood ornament, but the one in the link looks ok.

I'd have to see a build sheet that shows that chrome hood trim on it before I would believe that hood is original to that car. Is the header emblem rectangular on that car? It doesn't look like mine but it could just be the picture, or maybe my eyes.
It says in the ad the car is original paint, etc... but doesn't say original owner. The hood may have been changed early on. That's the only thing that bugs me about the car. The vinyl top looks original.

:p I have seen the 1/2 vinyl but not on a 442. Perhaps it's a Cutlass with a new header panel. I have not seen a 442 with the chrome trim in the centre of the hood either. Also not 100% sure about 77, but in 1976 you could not order the body side protective moulding with the W29 package. Overall, I do like the paint combo.

I don't think you got the body side molding with the 442 but I do know it was a common dealer add on. If you wanted it they had some make ready guy drill holes in the sides of the car and rivit it on. Probably the same guy who drilled holes in the trunk and mounted the dealer emblem. Luckily the mounting method was slowly moving away from rivits and screws and towards 2 sided tape around this time.
Pulling off the dealer emblem was always one of the first things I did when I got a car that had one.

Texx, here's a pic [not great] of the header emblem on my car, it appears to be the same as the 77-442 on this thread. It's rectangular shaped, not diamond shaped like most. Can't say for sure, but it appears to be original.

I would think the rectangular emblem is original(a 77 emblem?) and probably rarer than the hexagonal one(a 76 emblem?) that I see more often.
