I've got a line on a trans out of a 84 442, the guy does not know that much about what he has, just that it was a 307 olds? With overdrive? Is that trans a 700r or what? I'm looking to fit a overdrive on my 77 442, with a 350 olds. Should I look at this? Or ... Thanks for your thoughts. Chuck

The tranny should be a 200 4R, if I remember correctly. I believe that will fit, I've read about the conversion on the oldspower forum. Do a little research over there and I think you will get some of your answers.

(No Joe, I'm not thinking about swapping the th350 out of your old 73 H/O);)

It is probably a 200 4R. I had a guy build me one and I put it in my '71 convertible. It seems to do OK though I haven’t finished modifying the shifter ratchet plate yet (only drove down the road one time to check it out). You will also probably have to modify either the transmission mount or make a bracket for it.

The 73 H/O has a TH-400, not a TH-350.

Not as familiar with the mid 80's Olds, did they make an 84 442? I was thinking they were 85 through 87.

Really like the 83 - 84 H/O and the mid 80's 442. Sharp looking cars!

I think I still have my original 350ci equiped Cutlass on the brain. I have to get use to owning an Olds with a 455. Thanks for the correction.

First off the 442 was never made in 1984 so that is a bit of a flag right there.

If it is an 84 HO it will have a 2004R in it. The stall is a factory 2400 & an excellent converter for street use. After you buy this core be prepared to spend $1000 on it having it rebuilt & built up to handle any sort of power.

Once installed you will need to add aftermarket controls for the converter lock up feature. All said & done you will be spending a fair bit of cash to get everything done & that is if YOU do all the wrench pulling.
