I know.... Maybe this has been covered before with a Topic/Thread, but considering there are 207 active members out of 1520.... and the average poll response is hmmmm maybe 20-40 responses on it, why not bring it up for discussion.

Why do I bring it up? Well... I will post more about it in detail come June. This year marks my 20th with my Oldsmobile.
And quite a ride it has been.
Last Friday, I brought the car in for its annual sticker, albiet , a month early.. and nary a soul could not stop and ask something about the car while I was standing there.
It must be me, but people really have a strong afinity to these cars, as they sold at least a quarter million a year while in production.

But the question that stood out to me last week was , " You ever gonna sell it?"

"No. I'd rather it sit up at my family cabin up in Maine, in the field to spend her days in solitude, than ever sell it." That was my honest response.
But, I did chuckle and say, " My newborn son Sam will end up with the car when I'm gone."
So.. with that said, it will stay in the family as long as I can keep it going.
And so I got to thinking how many of you have had your Olds for a long while.

I know a good chunk of you have had them for years.

Take a vote on the poll.. be kinda cool to see how much history some of us owners have with our cars..

I go through cars like seasons. In the short time I have owned the 442 I have become attached to it. I want to drive, show and enjoy it. I'm not sure what it is. I hope that feeling lasts and I hope I can get my wife interested. She hated my 70 elcamino. I think my fish n ski boat is starting to get jealous. It's going to be tough on keeping the 3 of them happy car, wife, boat.

Let's see, I bought my blue '76 Salon in '78, sold it in the mid '80's (big mistake) bought it back in the late 80's, and hope to have it restored within the next 5 years. I also have several others from '71 through '77 including another nice '76 Salon I'm getting ready to paint and enjoy this summer:)

I had a 77 supreme around the early eighties that rusted out but I loved the car. My friend had a 74' Cutlass in High School that we drove around on the weekends listening to Bob Seger and Aerosmith 8-Tracks... (drank a few beers too :D) Anyhow, when I found a nice 74' on e-bay, I bought it and plan on passing it down to my girls when I'm done enjoying it.

I bought mine thinking it would be a good chassis to build a drivetrain with, intending to later swap the motor and trans to something else. That ain't gonna happen.

I have the same identical replacement car now as I did back in 1977 thru 1979. Unfortunatley I smashed the original one up on Oct. 29, 1979. It took 34 years to find another one to replace her. I own this one for about 13 months now and plan on really taking car of her. Thru the years I've always hoped on owning another one.

2nd car I ever owned. I can't remember if I got it in 89 or 90. It's the car that I used to learn how to work on cars.
It's like a member of the family.

Was handed the keys in 1988. I was 16 years old. Parents bought it new, never left the family, hopefully never will! :D Just can't imagine not owning it. It's been in our family since I was 5 years old.

Bought her new in jan. 76. Couldn't resist driving around the Ohio State campus with the t-tops off, even though it was about -10 outside. She's been retired since 1985, and in hibernation since 2006. I hope 2011 is the year she comes back to life permanently.

My '73 S came home in the summer of '79. Joined the '73 Toronado bought in '75 in my parents driveway. In between my Dad had a '77 Supreme and '78 Supreme as company cars. Prior to '75 my parents had never owned an Olds, they ended up buying 2 more in the '80's before switching to Buick. I've bought waaaay more than that!

Going through the list , I saw one of you brounght your 73 home new- I was glad to see some older than I, until you said you were 8 at the time, lol.

Bought my 74 Salon in 77 , fixed her up a bit in 89, dropped in the 455 in 09..

Bought the 74 Supreme about 5-6 years ago now-run it a little, but mostly it's a model for originality, as the owner kept it original, if not perfect. (It still has the original trunk mat in great shape, but she'd had it rustproofed, so it stuck to the trunk floor - else it'd be in the Salon for brownie points at Nats..lol)

Right after I hit the powerball, I'll build a 6 car garage, and add the 74 Cutlass, S, 442, and H/O :)

BTW, DVOC is having it's Spring BOPCaddy show May 21 in Frazer PA. Google Del Val Olds Club for the Hemmings sponsored site.

I have had my 77 for 14 months. Finally getting her out of the garage to the track in a week. I bought it that way I wouldnt ruin my 69 442 4speed car by racing it.

Well, over the past 20 or so years,I have owned a number of 76-77'S.In 1987,when i was 14,I bought my first one with intentions of restoring it b4 I got my licence. Was an original red y76 cutlass gmo.Out cane the tired olds 350 and in went a 350 chebby with lots of mods.By far my favorite one of all and without a doubt the one that fueled my cutlass addiction.Replaced it with a 76 red with white bottom 76 442.Long story short, had huge unsolvable title probs and ended up circle tracking it.Had a few supremes also. Then had a white/gold 77 442 when I lived in az,got rid of it to buy the white and light red 77 442 I have now.One could say that I love them cutlasses.Joe

I got the '74 in '86, the '75 about 2000, and the 73 in 2009. I also picked up a 73 parts car in '09 and a 74 parts car in 2010. When I blend the 2 74's, does that mean I only had it for 12 years?

Wow, I haven't posted in quite some time. Anyway, my current '75 I purchased from the original owner on April 9, 2001. Owned her 10 years and counting now.

Wouldn't trade her for anything. Not a trailer queen but I only take her out on really sunny days. Luckily I have a nice covered office garage that's really helped to keep the body in decent shape.

Finding parts has been a chore. ZERO '75 parts in Honolulu except for your basic GM mechanicals and electrics. Trim, exterior and interior have had to be sourced as far as New York. Its all good.

My first '75 I acquired in high school back in 1980. That one lasted all the way until 1993. :D

Bought my first '73 "old joe" in '89 the most work mech. over the years was a quick replace of the trans and then the install of rebuilt tranny when that one went out. She is resting in the yard, gets fired up time to time, while waiting on the last few parts to do a proper restore. got all the nos body panels except for left front fender, hood panel and floor boards and boat loads of nos chrome, etc to build her back up to new. The parts '73 bought in '96, two '77's bought in 96 also, '73 second owner bought in 05 along with two '73 s [one 442] and a '76 442, then two more '73's in 07 i think i missed a few hehe
