Sorry i've never used that one Joe, but it looks like pretty much like a stock cam with a tad more lift (stock is .400/.400). Not sure about the duration.
Its rated from idle-4800, but i really doubt it'll pull that high rpm?

Thanks Doug.. I didnt know , only what I read and was told. I thought it would have been a little more aggressive.

I would NOT use comp cams what so ever they are having quality control issues with using to soft of cores for there Cams and they are getting wiped off at start up of car..................they are using imported metal instead of the normal USA metal to save a buck on there costs in the long run its not saving them monies at all and is costing there company dearly

That's a pretty mild cam grind. I've used a few Comp Cams and they have been bulletproof. One is in DONUTRUN and the cam gets abused every time the car goes down the track! It's the last Comp Cams I've bought, and my brother and I put that engine together in about 2005 so not sure about the newer Comp Cams quality.
I'm sure it's a possibility they're using crappy imported steel now and ruining their good reputation. Several good companies have gone down this road. :( Maligoon - do you know when they made the switch to the imported steel?
Supercars Unlimited has exact cam grinds from lots of different performance Olds engines. Not sure who makes the cams for them or if they make them themselves. I've got one in my 442 that I purchased about 8 years ago and have been very happy with it. Great performance too!

I had Comp do me a custom grind yrs ago for the same price. I would go that way, so everything it set up for your whole set up and driving conditions. I have not had any problems yet, though my buddy had an issue yrs ago with a Comp in a CHebby engine.

from all I have been researching over the last few months for my 400 Build I am working on, the probs have started in the last 19 or so months they are buying the other cores to save a buck on costs, and in the long run I have a feeling they will go the way of Demon carbs that pulled 4 of the top names down with that crap ...........
When Barry Grant went under took all four of these companies And I feel Comp is gonna be the next one to fall
All these were owned by Barry Grant and now defunct

I do custom grinds and stand behind them as well as being an Olds enthusiast myself as well.
Happy to help.

That is a SMALL cam. Smaller then most of the factory HP grinds.

I've heard this several times about many of the cam grinders and usually it turns out that it was due to improper break in procedures or not using the proper oils or additives. In some cases it was a combination of both. It's not like the old days, you can't get away with just using cam lube. This is the first time I've ever heard anything about offshore cam blanks being used but it wouldn't surprise me none.
From what I understand, there are only two ot three cam blank manufacturers out there and they sell them to everyone else to finish grind. Maybe Cutlassefi can shine some light on this.

I think Comp is still a pretty good company. They have tech stuff in PHR a lot along with Doug Herbert and Lunati. I will agree about the breakin, that is usually what kills a new cam. The oil now has all the protection taken out of it. If you put one in use a good quality breakin oil. My local speed shop sells Joe Gibs and he swears by it and uses it in all his new builds and cam replacements.

Unfortunately most people don't know or have a clue about the missing stuff in todays oils and thats what starts alot of problems.
As for Barry Grant, his products were shit. I know of very few people who were happy with his carbs. Very few. I had a Silver Claw, bought new and it was a huge POS from the get go. It ran slower then the Holley 850 d/p it replaced. No amount of tuning helped. Piss poor quality control. Shavings inside. Never did run right. I replaced it with a new Holley 950 HP that ran way better right out of the box. That was on the dark blue 75 with the fiberglass bumper and hood in the rotating banner above.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
Yes there are only 3 core companies in the U.S. However some companies get certain cores from outside the U.S., Comp is just one of them.
As for right now all of Ersons stuff is U.S.A. And they like others are not recommending the "diesel" oil anymore i.e. Rotella, Delo, too many detergents in them.
Joe Gibbs is great stuff and highly recommended by alot of cam companies.
This is one reason why I went roller and only use those for all my builds, even if we have to have the customer wait and save a few more pennies. Too much upside to go any other way imo.
