Hello,
I thought I'd forward a blog post that I found while practicing my google fu:

I couldn't resist making my comment.. but I like that car!

Nice job at a reply, Donovan. The blog is evidence of that continuing bias against our cars. It always amazes me that even the short box later Cutlasses with the 307 seem to generate more positive comments overall. I'm not knocking them. I like them as well. It's just an observation that our "forgotten years" do not get the respect that they deserve. And, as you point out, with a little bit of tinkering, they can be brought to life in a big way. Again, great response.

Honestly, and I hate to say this but I've had a lot of people say my cars are ugly. Not just the rust ;-) the disco body style with the skunk stripe (so I've been told). Also been heckled with the word "slow" at stop lights, parking lots etc by many others as well. Obviously I love my '75s, just look at my sig... But, I do get responses on the other end of the spectrum that they look bad a$$ and sound like a Harley. I guess there is no happy medium. The '73 seems to be a big favorite among the '73-'77s. But that's just my observation from some of the threads on here and some family and friends. It's all debatable I suppose. As for the '87 Salon I have, I was getting complements from it at the tire shop the other day and that thing is a turd.

Also, that car looks almost like the one in the Auto Restorer mag. It's not it, but close. I'll see if I can scan that article on Monday at work and post it.

To each his own I guess... I do like the '67 442's/Cutlasses, but would much rather have a '72-'77 than just about any other year. I never played Disco in my 442... no offense to Disco fans. ;-)

P.S. Good to see some other Wisconsin folks on the site.

Could never stand disco! I have no complaints about the 78+ Cutlasses. When I first saw them in 78 I thought the obvious, that they were small and underpowered. But GM was doing what it had to. There is really a kind of arrogance on the part of some that say anything after 1972 is a piece of junk. For them, it's as if the car collecting hobby stopped then. Well they're wrong. Many of the members on this site have proven otherwise by de-smogging their engine and making them really cook. And Hemmings "Classic Car" magazine has done a number of nice features on our years. Honestly, I've never heard a negative comment about my car. Some have chuckled at the Osborne plaid interior. But I just reply that I had pants like that back in 76 and they must have looked okay because all of us cool dudes wore them back then. :D I think it's pretty unique, and an example of the cars and styles of the time. I've gotten nothing but respect from the Olds Club of Wisconsin group. I went to two shows last year, and while our cars were some of the least represented, those that were there were well cared for. I'm glad to have what I have, and I'm enjoying the ride! Glad to see another cheesehead, too. :p
