I've been a member for a few months and have been reading and learning but have not joined in so thought it was time to get involved. I've had several Oldsmobiles over the years but always wanted to have another 77 Cutlass to replace the 77 Salon that I bought new in March of 1977 and owned till 1984. Bought a 77 Cutlass S this past November and have been working on it since. It had some collision damage to right sde (mishap with garage) and left front including radiator support. Found all the parts I needed at local salvage yards including Olds sport wheels to replace the taxi cab wheels and sport mirrors that i havent put on yet. Will be doing some minor engine upgrades, paint and interior so will be needing tech adivice and parts. From what I've read there is lots of great information available here and looking forward to lots of fun with my project. Not worthy of pictures yet, still multi colors with the repalcement parts.

Welcome! Sounds like a great project! It's getting harder and harder to find parts at the local salvage yards here in metro Denver. They all are so crush happy. Good luck with your project and have fun!

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm going to see if I can put a couple of pictures on here. I'm getting ready to start body work and prep for paint and am thinking of changing from orange to black. I'm planning on keeping the car but am curious if that will hurt the value. Orange is staring to grow on me too.

Jimmy, I think the 73-77 Cutlasses look great in black. Unless you are doing a 100% factory correct show restoration, a color change wouldn't really hurt the value much for a regular Cutlass IMO. If it was a Hurst/Olds, or 442, or other lower production Cutlass then I'd keep the factory color. Remember black cars show every speck of dust and dirt so frequent car washing is a must! :D Take this from someone who owns a midnight blue pickup truck! I pulled the link out of your thread to look at your pics. You've got a really nice 77 S. Looks pretty much rust free and will be a simple restoration. That rear bumper looks really nice! Most of them rusted out badly! Did you get the car in the Denver area? I don't know the last time I've seen a mid 70's Cutlass S running around Denver. My brother had a 77 442 (based on the Cutlass S body) he drove daily for about 14 years, but about 6 or 7 years ago it got totalled in a bad accident. In case you are doing a correct restoration on your car, the grilles in your car are actually from a 76 Supreme.

Welcome aboard! You definitely have a color you rarely see, guess it goes along with the longhorns ehh? ;) Nice looking rocket.
As Gary said, most yards are cru$h happy making it an even bigger challenge to locate parts. I'm sure amongst the group you can get the advice you seek and possibly a few parts as well.
Again, welcome aboard and keep us posted on your progress.

I too bought a 77 Salon in June of 77. I had a family and needed a wagon to haul the kids around. Years later while cuising the wreckers with my sons I found my Salon. It was a bittersweet moment. I'm over it and have a varied collection of Oldsmobiles, '67, '68s, 73 and 75's, as toys and projects. My oldest son is quite involved with '67 Cutlasses. My youngest son is still trying to find a 70 Cutlass.

Welcome from Ft. Collins. This is a good group. My 73's engine is currently spead around my garage, but as Abe Lincoln said to Chief Joseph, "You must endeavor to persevere".:D

I did find the car in Denver. After looking at several cars over a few months I found it across the street from a friends house. It has almost no rust, there is 1 rust through spot on right quarter. I think window was leaking. The odometer read 49300 and the seller swears its original miles. After crawling around the car I think it is true. For as many of these cars that were made, I never see them out on the road. I would think they are becoming more & more collectible. I found the correct grills but decided not to put them on till we do the paint.
