I have got all of my parts for my 71 Cutlass from the Parts Place. They are good to work with and I have had problems working with them. Right now they are the only place that I know of that have some 73-77 stuff. So I am looking forward to see if they are just as good as the 71 parts.

I've bought a few things from them in the past. They were OK to deal with. I've heard hit or miss from others though. It's good that they are starting to get some more parts out there for us.

They list the outside window sweeps/felts for our cars. It says they have original and reproduction, they say the difference is the chrome bead is round on the original and flat on the reproduction. I wonder if they only have the OEM until the stocks are exhausted?
And has anyone seen or used the flat bead type, and how do they look?

Watch yourself with The Parts Place! The owner Joe, wants to be a big player in reproduction automotive parts. But does all the wrong moves to be there and stay there. He seems to miss that "One bad word goes ten times as far as one good word."

Make sure that you know, and get spelled out at the time of sale, what will happen when you go to return something that doesn't meet your expectations once in your hands. Or when you try to fit it in place on your car.

Most of what they get manufactured in China is not by the best vendors over there. But the cheapest ones. And believe it or not, you get what you pay for.......I know that is hard to understand for some people. Joe is still wrestling with that one at this late stage of his life.

There are a lot of.........Unhappy (Yeah, that's it!) people that have purchased off them in the past.

Myself, always in doubt when I see something new from them. I'll ask others how their part from The Parts Place fit first. Before I purchase one. Waiting a while is more than a good idea with them.

I just wanted to make that crystal clear. Before you pay for shipping twice, and still have a need for the same part. With nothing to show for it but more fairy tales from a sales person.

Sounds like Joe is following Wal-Marts lead, seems to be working for them.:) Its good to have members that can give you feedback so you can go in with a little knowledge before hand. (thanks 73HOP) I tend to be sceptical about new things, hence the question about anyone trying them. I am luck in that mine are still in good condition, but I will need them eventually and plan on changing them when I paint the car. That being said I have worked in the automotive parts sales business and I know that there is no pleasing some people, and they tend to make the most negative noise. And any businesses customer service depends on the person that happens to be giving it at the time. I know because I have had to go back and un-f*ck a lot of transactions my fellow employees had made. Some of those mistakes were lack of knowledge, and some were a don’t care attitude. I have a love of vehicles so it was a passion not just a job. Unfortunately for many people it is just a job. And 73HOP is right, one oh crap undoes 10 oh greats. That’s what’s great about this forum, we have a lot of people who can share their experiences and this way we can make a more informed decision. And until there is more of a demand for our parts we are most likely limited to overpriced NOS, and parts from the land of lead paint toys. So thanks guys, lets keep the feedback coming on our parts sources.

Thanks, Blane

I bought a battery tray from the Parts Place and it was supposed fit a 76-77 and what I recieved was a 70-72 442/Cutlass unit that had a couple of extra holes drilled in it. They don't specify this on their site. I called to complain, explaining that I thought I was buying a battery tray for a 76-77 Cutlass, not a 70-72 tray that had extra holes drilled in it and with a different part number. I informed them that thier description is very misleading, after all I called before I ordered the part and they told me that it was a reproduction of the original. They also said that it would function as the original did. The hold down set-up is totall different than a 68-72 car. When I asked for my money back, they said they would charge me a restocking fee as well as and I would have to pay the return shipping, which would be just as much as keeping the tray. Needless to say, I will never deal with them again.

The only issue I had with them was when I ordered a new Air Cleaner decal for my 71 Cutlass 350 2bbl. What I got was a 4bbl decal:( So I called them and told them what they sent and said no problem we will send out a new smaller 2bbl one, I asked if they wanted me to send back the 4bbl one and they said no, it would cost more in shipping, just throw it away. Sure, it is on my garage wall now!

It's nice that I have family down in that part of the IL, so when I need bigger parts or not sure if it will fit or look right, I go to see them directly. But all in all I have spent a bunch of money with them for my 71 and prefer them over some of the others, just because I can go look at the parts when I need to.

I agree you have to watch out for the oversees repops, they may not always be the best. My 71 quarter panel was preety good but I did notice that the cutout for the corner light is farther back to the bumper then it should so my belt molding is about a 1/2 short from meeting up with the wheel well molding. Did not notice that before paint. If I would not have a belt molding it would look like factory. Other than that I was pleased with my china quarter panel.
