Hi, just got the hurst olds in November (drove it from Denver to Seattle) and found your great forum in search for some seat belts. Midlife crisis brought me back to my olds roots, I have had two 442's in my past, (69 and 70) and a 71 cutlass S I bought as my first car, in 1978. The 73 is "super cool" I think! Happy New year! Gus

Welcome! I'm in the Denver area and curious as to how you found and where you bought your 73 Hurst. You're right, they are super cool! Have fun with it and details about it would be great to read! Oh yeah, you'll realize that we like to see pictures too! Again, welcome to the site. Lots of knowledgeable and friendly folks here.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I did register it on your 73Hurst olds site, Thanks. Very interesting stuff there. I work on Pics this weekend. I bought it from TSG auto in Parkland. The owner of the dealership had it for several years mostly restored. 72 455 - not origional motor. Deal went down kinda sketchy and didnt get the car back to Seattle without some mechanical troubles. All good now though I wish I had more complete history on it.

Its white with black interior, AC, stock air shocks. New paint, top and interior. 15 inch olds rims - maybe later model 442? Great tailpipes, maybe from that guy who made reproductions?? Found it through internet seaching. Not many oldmobiles in seattle so this one really makes people wonder "what is that?" Need seatbelts.

HUH?
The one with the Big H/O stickers on the sides?

Since its been repainted It might have had the stickers originally - but no, not now. Original opera window Hurst/Olds decal, and other H/O trim etc. Its around # 750 in your registry, under Gus Simonds.

So there you have it. Need to finish stripe on hood, fix heater, put a correct steering wheel ect, bigger sway bars, correct carb, tie rod ends idler arm, headers, manifold and maybe aluminum heads. I want to make it fast since the motors not matching anyway. The list goes on..good times ahead!

Yea pretty exciting, lost a belt in Wyoming, fixed that, then lost sppark on billings, didn't have time to troubleshoot so had it shipped the last 600 miles. home safe and sound now but a great adventure for sure!

Was this the car that was on the denver Craigs List? Sitting in their display area. I was drooling over that car for months! Of course, from South florida, I think the moon is slightly closer than Denver. Welcome, and let us know if you have any questions.

Yes it was the one in their display area. I saw it on an internet national car ad service. Got it for $11,600. Thought it was alot of car for that price. Denver is a long way from Seattle too, no direct route. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!! Gus

Dude, you scored! What were they originally asking? $18K? The prices of our cars is going up in the books, but the real world is lagging. I don't think it will be much longer until our cars will be a the current level 72 442's go for. Which is to say, around double than you paid, or more.

Thanks, it just feels good to have a special ride again. It seems to ooz 70's Karma like a unique timepiece and certainly not very many H/O's out there. He had it for sale for months, don't know why it didn't get snatched up, but he was asking 13,900 for it when I called him and negotiated the deal.

Just a little background on this car. It was on Crasigslist for over a year & I posted it on here when it was listed at $13,900 last August.
http://www.73-77olds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4954
I talked to him when the price was under $11,900 late last September & seeing the wrong stripes, wrong steering wheel, wrong wheels & no clear answer on the originality of the drivetrain I passed on this car.
At one point late last fall that car was listed very briefly at $8900 & I almost bit on it at that price but decided to pass & wait for a different car. It would have been a steal at that price but it still did not meet my needs but for that money I thought it was a good buy.
The truth is that the only thing that matters is that you like the car & that you are comfortable with the price that you paid. What others including me think of what you paid is irrelevent since you wrote the cheque not one of us. A car is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay not what others perceive it to be worth.
Enjoy your new car & welcome to the forum. Glad to see it went to a good home.
My gal & I reside near Calgary but we also vave a condo outside of Vancouver BC & spend time in the Seattle- Bellingham district in the spring & fall & I would love to see that car in person.

Thanks Dave and Jon. It's definitely not an exact science on valuation of something like this. If its a bargain at 8,900 and its way overpriced at 11,600 in my opionion those two points of light are fairly close. The discrepencies bothered me too. But the Vin# and body tag matched what HODaddy lists as viable vin# for a 73Hurst olds, right down to the manufacturing date window for 73H/O's. So its a real one, sheetmetal is fantastic and the suspension etc all correct. Engine, no. But the 73 455 isn't the best 455 and I wanted a car I could modify to go fast - so wrong motor actually fit in my plan for lower price/more fun. The real kicker was asking my 15 year old daughter who flew with me to get the car (priceless bonding!) if we should buy it (I was on the fence)....said we should get it - its cool! So I did.
Dave let me know when your around and I would be happy to get together. You may have some "go fast" advice for me too it looks like!

Sorry I can not take the credit for the 73 HO list. Eric Stewart is the owner of the web site and list. Will the real STEW please stand up and take bow! :D
