How hard would it be to put a 455 into a 1977 Olds Cutlass. We're looking at doing it down the road to make a "factory" 77 H/O ya I know they don't exist. Also, what would be involved in putting in a nice old four-speed since the car already has the weak five-speed. Or should I just put in a T-56?

Thanks in advance guys

The 455 will fit easily. The 5 speed tranny will be in "puzzle" condition shortly after. A muncie 4 speed would be nice.

My brother had a `77 442 that he put a 455 in. Dropped right in and the car was fast! Do not run a 5 speed manual with a 455 or even a 350 for that matter. The trans. won't be able to handle the engine torque and will be scrap metal in no time! A Miuncie M-20 4 speed manual was available in `73 Cutlass and 442, both with 350 and 455 engines. Putting a Muncie 4 speed in a `77 shouldn't be that difficult. Fusick Automotive now sells a bunch of manual transmission linkage, etc. for `73-`77 Cutlass. Look on ebay for pedals, etc. They're on there from time to time. `73-`77 Chevelle and El Camino (and other GM A-bodys) all used the same pedal assemblies. Good luck with your project.

Like Ken and Gary said, it will drop right in. The frame mounts and engine mounts are the same for the 260 - 455. Since your car already has the 5 speed and I`m gonna assume it`s hooked to a 260, you`ll already have all the stick stuff. I suggest a Super T-10. Muncies are over rated and too exspensive. A T-56 will take some work to adapt, but I`m sure it can be done.
