Found the only pic of my original '76 S, newly scrubbed and sitting pretty in the driveway sometime during the summer of 1978. Blue on blue with original Osborne plaid interior. Bench seat with optional car seat for the new baby (now 33 years old). Wish I had taken more shots!

How cool is that! Glad you found that photo I am sure! There is something to be said for actual photographs vs electronic storage as over time files may corrupt or can not be open with compatibility issues. Sure glad I have some originals of mine on paper in a safe. What did that baby seat cost then? I have to buy a $200 one that wifey wants for our newborn due in Feb. I'm sure the optional seat was much cheaper then! Lol

I couldn't even begin to figure out that cost. The funny thing is that we strapped the seat in the center front of the bench seat. I remember telling my wife that the baby took her place!! :p That would probably be a "no no" today! What I've noticed now after all of these years, and having another Cutty, is the lack of leg room in the back seat, and the small trunk! My wife drives a late model Corolla now, and there is far more usable space in that little rice burner than in the '76, even with all of its apparent size.

When I sold that one in '83, I bought a Renault Alliance, Motor Trend's Car of the Year in '83. I did it to support the hometown, and because the salted roads were taking a terrible toll on the poor Cutty. I later walked into an '86 Delta, the first year of front wheel drive and the transverse Buick 3600 V6. At first I was nervous about that engine after having such good experiences with Olds V8's. But it turned out to be a good car.

You're right about being a lifer... I learned to drive in my Dad's 1960 Olds Super 88! 394 cubes of Rocket! But I never, ever drove fast. Honest, Dad!:D

Thats a great looking car. Wisconsin salt eats cars, that is a fact. It makes the survivors that much better IMO. Anyone can write a check and turn a key. Its a labor of love to keep these classics good looking and running like new.

Wow, I had forgotten about the red on white plates! My driving started with the black lettering on yellow plates, there might even be one around here yet. As for the trunk, it gets a lot more usable with a mini spare tossed in there.

Funny you should mention the plates. When I bought the Cutty I have now, it came with all sorts of original documentation including black on yellow plates from 1980. The W-DOT must have alternated over those years. I think the state prison system was manufacturing plates back then. The ones they use today are much cheaper. Plates on my newer cars have lost paint. I guess nobody can print plates like jailbirds! :p

Plates today in Mass. are made with a steel stamp like most, then they are coated with a vinyl sticky 3M coating. I found this out by changing out my plate sticker last year and it started to pull the white vinyl back and if I kept going I could...clearly.. pull the entire plate clean to bare steel.
So, I guess the cost of having inmates make plates is so expensive, right???
Imagine paying criminals a salary to make plates????????????

I found some old pics of my 77 when I got her back in 92. Whitewalls and a really faded hood and trunk! I wish I had a scanner! I got some pics with my old friend Chris who bought a 78 Cutlass Supreme Brougham about 3 weeks after I bought the 77. They look pretty cool together...
He beat that car to within an inch of it's life, sold it to my buddy Phil, who proceeded to finally put it out of it's misery. Funny thing is, that 78 was in way better shape than my 77 when we got them back in the day. Proudly, my 77 is still here!
