I have been building my shop for about 2 years and it is now closed in and almost complete. The only thing outside is lights and finishing the stack stone where the block is and installing the meter base and power. The inside I have to finish running the conduit and hanging boxes and installing lights and sealing the floor. It is so close to being working I thought I would celebrate by showing it off. It is 48x66 almost 3200 sq. feet.

I have 13 years at the fire dept and hope to start building cars and have that up and going for when I retire. The order is retire, build hot rods, play golf, should make for a nice mixture.

Mitchell-
Well done . Well done indeed. I commend you on building a nice shop with good size to do many projects.
You got the right idea to retire and do some hot rodding and golf for sure.
Insure that nice building:
Let's just pray those damn twisters stay the hell away from you down there. i'd hate to see that work of art get shredded.
My sister is in Gainesville, and let me tell you over the past 15 yrs she has seen her fair share of storms. Georgia gets way too many twisters.

Insured already. I have been looking at lights tonight, that is more difficult than designing the building!

Wow, that's an awesome shop! Did you design it yourself? Looks like you're going to have a great place to build cars, I wish you well.

That is awesome!! I would love to have something like that! It would be great not to have to pay for storage anymore!! Oh well, gotta have goals, right?!

Yes, designed it myself. Thought about it or more like dreamed about it for several years and lots of sketches. It will have a loft, 12x30 for misc. storage and 4 feet of shelves along the walls. That way when I take a car apart the parts stay on the shelves in that cars bay and I can find them again. The center will have a lift some day and under the loft will be an office 10x12 a work center 20x12 and in the back of the right side will have a lockable tool room 12x18 for the tool boxes and stuff. Call me paranoid but we had all our tools stolen from the dairy one time so if anyone gets in they will have to go through another security door to get to the tools. I have some projects at my dads I will be moving as soon as the floor is sealed. My daughters 73 mustang, my sons 68 mustang convertible and of course my Oldsmobiles. I have a 72 Land Cruiser I am redoing this winter to sell next spring, so I guess that will be my first paying project. I will try to get some pics of the inside soon. Thanks for all the comments!

I think I can say this for all of us: A shop like that would be a dream to have.
I know I get tired of working around lawnmowers and our washer and drier and whatever crap that gets pushed to the garage. Really happy for you. :)

My 76 442 is going to get media blasted in the next month or two and then to paint at my cousin's body shop. Then engine rebuilt then transmission, already have the rearend just need to put the disc brake stuff on it. then the Interior. I hope it is done in a year, HOPE. With my daughters Mustang happening at the same time it may take a while. I waited 21 years to get the car I can wait a while longer to have it right. I was thinking the other day about all the stuff I take for granted as just being there in my dads shop like a floor jack and jack stands, drill press, drop lights, stuff like that. I have to get all that kind of stuff because it will stay at my dads. Looks like more grass cutting next year and more ambulance time this winter!

Mitchell that is one fine looking Oldsmobile building shop you have ! I wish you all the best! Hope you save many of the 73-77's in that shop of yours!
As for the 73 quarters, I had to take what I needed from another car I parted. I know there is a few companies making what they call 73-75 quarters that need to be altered for 73's but I have not heard anything good about any of them. None of the big compnaies that I would trust to my knowledge are making them yet.....
Maybe you can do the same or find a nos set ...Sorry Brother !

Fabulous shop Mitchell! Something I dream of building someday. My back garage/shop is 768 square feet and pretty much full (my dad's storing one of his cars in there). Just remember to completely finish the shop inside before you start moving stuff into it. Otherwise finishing the shop "later" becomes that much more difficult. Ummm... yeah... I know because of experience! :o

I worked on it yesterday, started wiring the lights. saturday we are going to finish the lights on that side and then either do the other side or start on the shelves or workbench. Anyone have any recommendations for the lights in the center? it is a 12' eave so about 14' at the center. I thought about 2 or 3 of those big bay lights. They seem to work good and I can get them off C.L. for aroung $50 to $75.

I got the loft framed and will put the decking down as soon as I get a chance. The workbench is done and the sink is installed but not plumbed yet. I had a friend come by that is an electrician and help me spot the routes for the rest of the conduit so i can finish it up. Supposed to be in the 60s this week so I hope to get some things done. I will post pics of the finished areas as soon as I can.
