I have heard that because of a shortage of 74 H/O's at the track they used 73's. Is there any truth to this or proof. I know that there is a registry of 74 track cars. If this is true are the 73's on it too? Joe

I checked the list and it looks like all 93 cars listed were '74s. I doubt there were any '73 H/Os that were officially used.

WOW !! Thats good to know. I guess the vehicle manifest was from GM for the new cars delivered to the track. Cool stuff !

Where did you get the info?

Why the same place I find everything I've found on Hurst Olds. I dig for it from people that were present.

I think with that piece of information. I found it along the way while looking for something else.

A friend of mine is 1967 Pace Car Nuts. (Even that is an understatement.) He has been looking for the Indianapolis Pace Car Assignment sheets for 1967 for a few years. Like I did for 1972. We share information because a lot of the same events stay similar from year to year and it helps to compare notes for a better understanding.

He found the one guys name that had all the answers on the program for 1967. That guy was instrumental in Camaro being the Pace Car that year. After doing an exhaustive search he found where the guy lived and called him. His daughter answered the phone. He was placed into an assisted care home. He contracted Alzheimer's only months earlier. She said that most of the time he doesn't recognize her now. Before that he was like a verbal encyclopedia of facts and dates. That guy knew everything about the 67 and 69 Pace Car Programs. All gone now in about three months. He kicks himself on a daily basis for not finding things out faster. But my friend keeps on in hopes that he'll be able to fill in the blanks with fact and not fiction.

Maybe you see why I'm motivated to finding the answers that come up on the Hurst Olds. It could be gone that fast. Just like Dale Smith with me. I got so many answers from that man over the years. It's hard to beat a factory engineered car. Sure you can get more power, but what other areas of the cars usefulness and reliability will suffer?

If we don't get answers from these people now. All we will be left with are the people that come up with THEORIES that try to pass them off as the truth. I don't really care for novels or fairytales much myself. I like true stories based on real events of life. A problem with getting older I guess.
