I have seen this also. If memory serves me well, I believe it said on entry form that all cars needed these to be on premises. I think it is an insurance thing but I may be wrong. I do like the trophy comment though.

It was originally an AACA showfield requirement, but you'll find most all marque clubs require an extinguisher now.

Parking it beside the LF wheel is an easy way to make sure the judging team sees it and doesn't hit you with a deduction for not having one- and it IS a mandatory deduction on an AACA or OCA showfield that's using the judging manual and national scoresheet.

Downside is they tend to be an attractive target for sneaks who forgot to bring their own and will swipe yours to avoid losing the deduction. I know several people that's happened to.

I agree with the fire extinguisher deduction, but I do not agree with the spirit items deduction the OCA instituted several years back- as in you get docked 5 points for each item less than three that you don't have. It was originally set up to be a points addition with no penalty, then someone surreptitiously decided it should be a point deduction. WTF are we judging, a car or a trophy display? I toted a scolding from the OCA head judge for loudly voicing my opinion about it on another forum, which you who know me can guess that elicited a fairly harsh return volley.

There's times I think I'm going to have to run for Zone director again just to keep some of the OCA board shenanigans in check. I can about guarantee the first thing I'd push for is that the NJC will overhaul that joke of a judging program or hit the road. Volunteer organization and "we're here to have fun" or not, the OCA judging program has lost credibility because entirely too many cars receive 1st place awards that do not deserve them.

For as long as I can remember (and my family has been doing OCA events since the early-mid 1980's), believe that fire extinguishers were required at OCA National meets. It is only recently (within the last 5 years) that the OCA specified the location of where the fire extinguisher is to be displayed. They made the change to specify where the extiguisher is to be displayed in order to make it easy for someone to find it should a fire break out on the showfield as people had them everywhere (mounted in the trunk, underneath the front seat, displayed with the car literature, underneath the rear end with cleaning supplies, etc).

And you should run for Zone director again. I think the implementation of the spirit display items was to promote more OCA items sold and have people take some extra steps in making the whole car as a presentation with some extra's. It should have been left as a points addition not a penalty deduction if not present
