How do you test a oil pressure gauge when the fuel and water temp work fine. If I turn off the egnition switch the oil pressure guage drops to the half way mark, Turn on the egnition switch on without starting the car and the pressure starts to clime, start the motor and the gauge pigs at 80psi any thoughts.

You will need a volt meter to check the resistance when the oil pressure is zero. Your cluster meter will react to the change in resistance caused by the increase in pressure when you start it up. If your resistance is unchanged from having the ignition off and fromhaving the key in the onposition, it's most likely not your sender. It is not recommended to have teflon tape,or anything else on the threads, as it may impede the ground connection. Next, I would clean the connection for the wire, and possibly check the wire to the firewall for any problems. Unfortunately, the cluster is unserviceable. If the sweep is bad, you need to get another.
