I am the owner of a 76 Cutlass Supreme Brougham....purchased in 1979. I brought the car for $3200.00, and it was my very first car. The car had been owned by the wife of a used car dealer, who had it since new. When I purchased the car it was 3 years old with 15,000 miles, but still like new...I have owned it since that time.
In 1986, the gas line going to the carb, began to leak while driving and caused a small fire under the hood. I have not driven or started the car since then.
This year 2010 (summer), I decided to go ahead and restore the car, thinking I would need a new motor, as I was sure it was locked up...but to my surprise, after adding a new carb, battery, and fuel, the car started and ran fine. I am in the process of locating the underhood wire harness and replacing a lot of the old parts with new ones. Once everything is complete, I 'll begin to remove the surface rust on the hood, top and trunk (still in good shape) and get a new spray job.
I am glad there is another source/website that can provide useful information for these cars, as you don't see them everyday or at the car shows. Since this was the largest selling american vehicle for 76 & 77, it should just get more and more popular.
