OK Ken, this is another of the 143 correct? They were not 442 specific I imagine. This is what mine should look like with the white 442 stripes and the buckets etc. I only wish I had this to start with. I hope someone who appreciates it gets the bid.

Also a note, when I posted about the 76 I purchased it was noted by a fellow member the spare tire delete on the build sheet. I have since learned, and the window sticker on this one confirms, cars built late in the 76 model year (mine july 76, this one aug 76) were sent to dealers without a spare tire. The jack, wheel etc. were in the car and a voucher was sent to dealers to obtain the tires when they became available. I think there was a shortage due to a strike. When cars were transfered between dealers paperwork had to follow to insure the tire would eventually find the car. There is a service bullitin I found on this subject in my dealer folder. Thought this was interesting tidbit.

Check out the passenger remote mirror. You don't see that option much. Seems like when I have seen it in the past the mirror control was mounted in the same area, just down lower on the dash. That's the highest one I've seen.

No, this is not one of the 143. The 143 were W29 cars with the 455. This is not a W29 (442) car.

I've got one with a sport mirror. :) When the car gets painted, I'll add this mirror.

Is there anyone close to this car and could go take a look at it? I really want a 76 442, but this might actually be a better car to get. Seems to be a bit rare and a possible 'deal on wheels' since most people don't know the possible rarity of this car.

Oh yeah, I have a sport mirror passenger remote too.:D But it seems the interior control was mounted down lower on the dash of the cutlass I removed it from than it is in the picture of the car on eBay. I just figure that is possible, the assembly line worker probably just drilled the hole in the dash in the general area and then screwed the control over the hole. I just want to be sure I get it right. I'm in the process of dying my new dash and will be putting in the mirror when the dash goes in, in a couple of weeks.

Yeah it is really high. I remember the ones I've seen closer down to that contour also.
Cool that's good enough for me before I go drilling on my dash.
The more I look at that car the more I wish I could buy it. I'd go look at it if it was near by. It may be more rare than a 76 442 455 car. I sure wouldn't clone it in to a 442 as the seller suggests. Clean it up, fix the rust and put white letters and sport mirrors on it and I'd be drivin'

So where exactly is this thing supposed to be mounted?

That's the thing, there probably is not an exactly. In the past I have seen them mounted down close just inside the contour line the runs around the dash and across the bottom where it turns in the corner, below where it is shown in that picture on eBay. I was thinking that maybe it is higher on that car because it is a non factory A/C car and there is less junk behind the dash. So routing the control cable isn't as critical as an A/C car. The car I pulled mine from was a super loaded 76 Supreme with twilight sentinel, tempmatic automatic climate control, trash bin and full power everything. It was black with a red interior and probably shouldn't have been in a wrecking yard. All it had was rust around the vinyl top.
How many people ordered a Cutlass with out A/C but with a passenger side remote mirror? Not many I'd say, especially with a 455 and posi.:D

Yeah, it does look a bit high. Could be from it being an original non-air car.
David, let me know when you get ready to put your dash in. I'll see if I can swing by and help.

Not a problem Brad, but I will most likely be doing the dash swap at my friend's house in McKinney, not right down the street. Of course you are welcome to help.
When I was outside putting a second coat of the SEM camel tan (perfect match)on the dash. I looked on the back and where the eBay car has the mirror control is just about where the back of my dash has a screw mounting boss numbered 22, #23 is just above it and just above that is #24 which is for the corner mounting boss of the round air vent. Off hand I don't know what mounts on #22 and 23 but it looks like #22 may have been cut off when they mounted the mirror control. If not it must be really close. Well time to wipe down the dash and spray another coat. I'll take a picture when I finish.

Dave are you saying that the mirror control is located in the correct position (as per your dash numbers) or at least very close? Or is this the position you've seen them in before like in the picture below?

I'm saying in that picture, it is in the wrong place. The mounting column tower things on the back are not for the mirror, they are for other components to be mounted on the back of the dash. The mirror controls that I have dealt with in the past have about a 1 inch hole drilled in the dash and then the control plate just screws in the front of the dash with the screws you see in that picture. Where your little "HERE" box is , that is where I've seen them mounted in the past. I'll take some pictures of the mounts when my dye job dries and I get home from going out tonight, I mean it is Saturday, gotta go out on the town. Later..

Okay, here's a picture of my dash I dyed today. It was black when I started. Also a picture of the back side of the dash where the passenger mirror control is mounted. It looks to me like the #22 mount is located where the control is mounted on the eBay car. Maybe this #22 is something not used on all cars. I do know that my replacement dash pad came from a 73 year model Cutlass. I do not think that there is any difference in the 73 and 76 dash pads, but I'm sure to find that out when the swap begins. Check it out. You can't see the numbers in the picture but the mount with the screw is #24 and obviously holds the vent ball in, #23 is in the middle and #22 is the lower mounting boss and the one that I believe is compromised by the mirror control on the eBay car. If it isn't messing up the #22 mount then it must be real close. I do not know what the #22 and #23 mounts are used for. I can't remember.
