Fellow Forum Members,
If you are an OCA member, then you saw your latest JWO. In it is an election card. Please exercise your right to vote and send in your ballet.
There is a large push happening to replace many of the current OCA BOD members. So please do your part and help complete the need for change.
Up for election are:
President
VP
Treasurer
Many feel Gene the current Treasurer is doing a fine job and should get the chance to stay and continue his work. The seat of Pres and VP are of questionable integrity and many are looking to push them out.
I am not going to say how I am voting, but the message here is.... please vote.
Thanks

THanks for the reminder Dave. I enjoyed meeting you and your club when I was at the Woodward Cruise 2 years ago. I think I need to come back someday.

You just did say how you are voting.
Please inform the forum members why there is a large push for change.
While explaining, please elaborate why there is in your mind questionable integrity among the seat of the President and VP of the OCA.
Thank you very much.

You've put this in print, so you're opening yourself up to possible legal action. Were I you, I would edit this and quickly.
I served ten years (1990-2000) as Atlantic Southeast Zone director, and the whole ten years I heard that same hue and cry every election for all four of the club offices plus the JWO editor position. I worked with enough people to know who had integrity and who didn't, and a lot of the time the ones who were squalling about someone else's integrity had none of their own.
The politics, bitching and whining were the reason I left the BOD. It was no longer fun and I was unable to keep developing my Zone because of it. That's the only reason I ever ran for a seat on that board, because my immediate predecessor had held the ASE Zone director position for nearly 15 years and had never even tried to start a chapter in his home state.
I'm not too happy about Maxine's name being left totally out of the election spread. She's running unopposed for Secretary, but she wasn't even given the benefit of letting people know who she is and what office she holds. A lot of the Zone people are also running unopposed, but they got some exposure.
Some people have complained that the current executive board is too Texa-centric, but in this election I'm seeing the distinct possibility of it becoming Minnesota-centric, and I don't want to see that happen either.
One guy is pushing for term limits. I can appreciate that, but often times a Zone director or officer stays in office longer than they ever wanted to simply because no one else will step up to run. That's the voice of experience speaking.
I'd rather see someone push for staggered terms of office for all positions. President/Secretary/one Zone position this election, VP/Treasurer/other Zone position the next election. That way you have continuity and don't run the risk of changing out the entire BOD at one time. I beat my head against the wall with that one the last four years I was on the OCA board, but there were people who wouldn't hear to it because it would have disrupted their alliances.
And people wonder why I'm happy to just sit back and get my JWO every month- 3rd class mail, and on my own dime. There have been rumours that current and former BOD members get their JWO and club membership free or at reduced cost, but this one doesn't.
I am really considering sitting this election out and not voting.

This is getting interesting.
Wonder what the issues are with the President and VP of the OCA?
However it goes down, there is always going to be a political side to it, which is a crying shame. You cant get away from people's adjenda's, hidden or otherwise.
And what should be the focus is the the club itself and maintaining it's charter ideals and not deviating from them.

Change is always good and what we need most of all since the Brand is dead will be a good group that promotes the club to all age groups. Since being in the MN Olds club and seeing no younger generation get involved is sad to see. The OLDS clubs need to promote all types of Oldsmobile restorations and not be critical with a young group that does not have an original car. The younger groups don’t want to get involve with the clubs because the older group condemns how they create their Oldsmobiles.
I like term limits and always seeing new folks in position every so often. Who would want to see our current president of the US or former Pres in office 15 or 20 years. I don't!
My .02 cents
