Question about `73-`76 Vista Cruiser Station Wagons

After seeing that beautiful `73 Vista Cruiser station wagon at the Olds Nationals in Kentucky, I thought I'd post this question that I've had for years but still don't know the answer. Maybe Dennis knows this one! :) `73-`76 Cutlasses with U21 Rallye Gauge Pack had the "Fasten Seat Belt" light on the top of the dash. All Vista Cruiser and Cutlass Cruiser station wagons had the same light on the dash except it said "Tailgate Ajar." The U21 Gauge Pack was available in all Cutlass models including the station wagons. If a wagon was ordered with gauges, what did the light on top of the dash say, "Fasten Seat Belts" or "Tailgate Ajar"? Just curious what Olds did in this case. :confused:

Gary, in my 1976 Dealers Handbook it does not list the gauge package as an available option for the Cutlass wagon. The other Cutlasses come with a standard V6 engine while the wagon came std with a 350 V8. According to my info, U21 was not offered to the wagon buyers. So, no conflict with having to decide what to put on the dash. It may be the same for the 73-75 wagons as well.

The U21 was not available for the 73-76 Vista`s because of the FASTEN SEAT BELT light. In 77, it was moved to the left dash panel. So you could get it in 77, but not in 73-76.

Thanks Dennis. I knew you'd know the answer! :) I was under the impression you could get rallye gauges in a wagon, but I guess that was just for `77 due to the changed location of the Fasten Seat Belts light.
