So I get up this morning and take the 442 out of the garage as my wife wants me to drive her to the federal building so she can get her passport to go to Las Vegas on her business trip. As I'm backing out my hand hits the turn signal lever and snaps it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/vttedrm/Smilies/mad5.gif

I drive the wife and drop her off and don't signal the whole way there and back. I decide to check out the local junkyard. The chances of finding a mid-seventies car is remote but I'm desperate.

I get to the yard about 2 pm and walk into the yard, toolbox in hand. Then I see her. It's a 76 or 77 Cutlass I can't tell because the front header is off. What are the chances that a good signal arm is there intact. All the windows are smashed. I look inside and discover it's a 77 Cutlass S. The turn signal arm is there in perfect condition as is most of the interior.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/vttedrm/Smilies/hurray.gif

I take the part out and see that the car has the original quarter window trim and a pretty good back bumper with plastic strip intact. Anyway, I grab what I need (along with the window trim) and head out. I'm going back tomorrow. Lucky me.

I decide to go to Canadian Tire. For those of you who have not been to Canada, think of it as the Canadian version of the Wal-Mart of auto, sporting and gardening goods. Half the store is automotive. I go to rent a steering wheel puller and find that if I return it in three days, I'll pay nothing. It's their loan policy. Lucky me. As I'm walking out I spot a tool chest. $34.99. Not bad I thought. Roller drawers etc. I pick it up and it's heavy. I look inside and see that it comes full of ratchets, pliers, hammer, drill bits, screw drivers etc.

I take it to the counter and the woman says $199.99. I say hold on, the sign says $34.99. The manager comes by and after a few minutes he says, charge him $34.99. I pay and as I walk out I see the sign was changed to $199.99. Lucky me!

So I went and bought a lotto ticket for the Friday draw of $12 million. It's not Powerball, but it is tax free. If I win, you will know about it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/vttedrm/Smilies/party.gif Wish me luck! :D

Sorry about your turn sig. lever, Ken. All in all I'd say it was a lucky day for you! I have to be careful when I drive my 442 or my Supreme at night so as not to hit the turn signal lever to activate the highbeams. I'm used to my `01 GMC truck and my `01 Chevy Silverado work truck with the dimmer in the column! I've stopped myself from snapping the lever so far!

Yeah, breaking the signal really sucked. But I couldn't believe my luck in finding one an hour later! Now to update:

Last week I noticed the Corvette passenger taillight would not brighten when I touched the brakes. At night the light would light with the others, but would not get brighter when I stepped on the brakes. The driver's side light would light up but not the passenger side.

I worked on it for half a day and couldn't find the problem. On Vette's, most problems are grounds because on a fiberglass car, you can't just ground to a fender. Anyway tonight, I back the Vette out of the garage to make room to place my new tool set that I got for $34.99. Well, I see the red lights light up the front of the 442. I call my son to get in the Vette and step on the brakes. Bingo! Both lights brighten up:confused: So, I still have to find the problem, but right now, it's not a problem. I suspect the clutch pedal is rubbing on a wire and has worn through and is grounding itself. But today was my lucky day, so to speak.

Check out the tail light bulb on that vette and try a different one. The spring filament could be broken loose and moving around. Sometimes it makes contact and works and sometimes it doesn't. Take it out and if it looks good give it a little thump and see if the spring moves around. A lot of times they look good but the spring is broken. Bulbs are cheap. I know that you know this but sometimes we overlook the obvious while searching for a problem. Good luck.
