Hello,

Question for 76/77 Cutlass owners.

Just wanted to know how many of your headlights are switched on when you pull your connector on low beam position and how many of your headlights are switched on when you switch to high beam.

With what i understand in the service manual wiring diagram, the four headlights are on on low beam position and only two (the outer ones) on high beam position. Is it correct ?

Thanks for your help,

Eric

Only the outer two headlamps are on in LOWBEAM position, and all four headlamps are on in HIGHBEAM position.

All four are on only with HIGHBEAM, then the LOWBEAMS are on the outside lamps only.

Got to wondering that I dont think you can put all 4 lamps installed with HIGHBEAM ratings, the connections are different on the back of the lamps to correspond to the correct plug in the harness.
I could be wrong. If I am wrong.. there could be some nice bright lights at night!

okay but i don't understand why in the schematic wiring the highbeam indicator lamp on the dashboard is on the tan wire, this tan wire is plug only on two headlamps, the light green wire is plug on the four headlamps...

Actually the high beam indicator comes from the GRN LT wire, which goes to both headlamps as well as the dimmer switch.

Ok, scratch that last one, I was looking at a Toro schematic. The way the Cutty one looks, power comes into the headlight through the BLU LT wire and in low beam, goes to ground through the dimmer switch via the TAN wire, because the dimmer switch is an easier path to ground than the high beam indicator, no power gets to the indicator bulb. When switched to high beam, the GRN LT wire is now grounded by the dimmer switch, forcing power through all 4 headlights, while at the same time leaving the power on the TAN wire no other path besides the indicator bulb, therefore the bulb lights.
