Hello Everyone,
Well, after getting back in the swing of things, I want to be sure and get some feedback on an interesting Show topic.
As many of you know, the Oldsmobile Club of America "kinda" has our cars separated out in their own classes, but not to their full potential.
Anyway, I had a great conversation with Bob Casey in Bowling Green. Bob is the Head Judge for OCA. He mentioned how he loved my passion for our years of cars and suggested if we want to have more notice and possibly even a class "restructure" at some point to consider being the "Featured Class."
Here is his suggestion, simply ask the '08 Nationals Committee for the 73-77 Cutlass/442 & Hurst/Olds to be the featured class. This would get us good exposure to the OCA judging committee who would then possibly look into restructering the classes at some point.
A featured class is either not judged, or can be judged by the individuals making up the class. The argument here is that these folks understand that particular make and model of cars the best, so they would be the best to judge them.
Now, if you have a car and you are wanting to try to win a "Best of Class" award, you would not want to be in the featured class. If you have a really nice car that you enjoy driving that maybe does not have a super detailed undercarraige and you aren't too concerned with a BOC, the featured class would be the perfect spot.
A featured class would also allow all of us to park in the same part of the show field together, which I think would be pretty cool.
In any case, this is an option presented to us. All we would have to do is ask to be the featured class, and then show up. It's up to you.
If anyone is not an OCA member, please let me know and I will send you a couple of complimentary Journey With Olds magazines so hopefully you will consider joining. Myself, Pete Kley, Gary Campbell and Bob Shiely had a blast this year. I only wish I had scheduled more time to enjoy the show.
In any case, next year should be fun. If you want to do this, let me know. If not, I won't mess with it. It will only take a phone call, then we wold have to show up...
