Hello Everyone,

Well, after getting back in the swing of things, I want to be sure and get some feedback on an interesting Show topic.

As many of you know, the Oldsmobile Club of America "kinda" has our cars separated out in their own classes, but not to their full potential.

Anyway, I had a great conversation with Bob Casey in Bowling Green. Bob is the Head Judge for OCA. He mentioned how he loved my passion for our years of cars and suggested if we want to have more notice and possibly even a class "restructure" at some point to consider being the "Featured Class."

Here is his suggestion, simply ask the '08 Nationals Committee for the 73-77 Cutlass/442 & Hurst/Olds to be the featured class. This would get us good exposure to the OCA judging committee who would then possibly look into restructering the classes at some point.

A featured class is either not judged, or can be judged by the individuals making up the class. The argument here is that these folks understand that particular make and model of cars the best, so they would be the best to judge them.

Now, if you have a car and you are wanting to try to win a "Best of Class" award, you would not want to be in the featured class. If you have a really nice car that you enjoy driving that maybe does not have a super detailed undercarraige and you aren't too concerned with a BOC, the featured class would be the perfect spot.

A featured class would also allow all of us to park in the same part of the show field together, which I think would be pretty cool.

In any case, this is an option presented to us. All we would have to do is ask to be the featured class, and then show up. It's up to you.

If anyone is not an OCA member, please let me know and I will send you a couple of complimentary Journey With Olds magazines so hopefully you will consider joining. Myself, Pete Kley, Gary Campbell and Bob Shiely had a blast this year. I only wish I had scheduled more time to enjoy the show.

In any case, next year should be fun. If you want to do this, let me know. If not, I won't mess with it. It will only take a phone call, then we wold have to show up...

Brad,
You bring up a great topic. When I had my 76 442 and was taking it to local chapter shows, I was rarely in a class with 73-77 cars. You could always find them in at least 3 or 4 different 'sections' of the show. Whenever I've attended a few of the Nats, I always wondered why the group was not parked together like so many others were. I think it would be beneficial for the owners as well as show attendees to make it easier to enjoy the cars, and also easier on the judges. Being a featured class sounds like a good idea to me. I'm all for it....as soon as I find another 76 to fill that void.

On your other topic, do I need to currently have a car to be able to join the club? I am very interested in the magazine and have looked for subscription information. If I am able to join the club, without owning an Olds currently, then I will definitely consider it.

Thanks

Scott

I would also be interested in joining. I would have attended Bowling Green had it not been a 13 hour drive one way for me. I know my cars aren't show cars, and I really don't care. I just want to be there checking things out and to effectively represent the 73-77 crowd. Gary and I have been talking about a photo op with our two cars for about 6 or 7 years now. Detroit is a bit closer, I'll definitely try to shoot for that next year. We shall see.

You do not have to own a car to be a member of the OCA.

If you would like extra copies of JWO, PM me with your mailing address and I will get them to you in the mail this weekend or so. I have quite a bit of extra copies and it would be good to clean out the spare bedroom closet!

Brad,
Featured class sounds like a good idea. Considering this will probably be the biggest Nationals to date, I can't think of a better time to do it.

Brad, who do we contact ie email address or phone number. I will be at the 08 Show and I think it would be great to have all the cars together.

According to Bob Casey, all we have to do is ask the Motor City Rockets Club. I am guessing they would do the rest. We would run an article in JWO to let the members know as well. Hopefully it will be that simple. My time is getting way too limited nowadays and I don't have much time to work on things like that. We'll see...
