I need to know if the hood on a 77 Olds Cutlass S 442 is interchangeable with other yrs or models. Mine has a bend/crease at the springs. It seems the Cutlass S was more "pointy"
Also, any suggestion on finding a deck lid?

76-77 Cutlass hoods are the same, the 442/S didn't have a center trim though [same hood/no holes for trim]. 73-77 decklids should interchange.

I thought the same as Tood. But I remembered I had a Hollander Interchange Manual for body parts:
73-75 hoods will interchange with each other.
76-77 hoods will also fit each other.
The 73-75's are not interchangable with the 76-77's.
Interchangable trunk lids are as follows:
73-75 will interchange with each other. Will not fit 76-77 cars
76-77 2 door cars will interchange with 76-77 2 door cars
76-77 4 door cars will interchange with 76-77 4 door cars.
73-75 Buick Century trunk lid will not interchange with the 73-77 Cutlass.
76-77 Buick Century trunk lid will interchange with the Cutlass of the same years.
4 door Buick Century trunk lid will not fit 4 door Cutlass cars

Todd, that's great! This will let us know for sure. I thought the same as you, but my Hollander disagrees. Perhaps at least this way we'll be sure. (I don't have a 73-75 trunk lid to bolt on)

I have decklids from both 74 and 77 Supremes in my basement. They look identical to me. Plus if you look at both my cars from the back, I can't see a difference either. Maybe I need a closer look to make sure. I'd like to think I'm not old enough for the eyes to be going just yet!

Didn't get a chance to swap the lids this evening but I will one night after work this week. If they [Hollander] state 73-75's are the same, and this 75 lid I have fits the 76, then I'd have to say 73-77's are the same. Maybe then, we can put this puppy to rest :p :D .
The emblems are different, so there's probably some difference in the trim holes?

Is there a difference between the Cutlass and the Cutlass Supreme hoods?
Ok I am vehicle illiterate....whats the difference between Cutlass and Cutlass Supreme?

My eyes must be going. Neither of those cars look like a 77 from the back. If I had to guess, I'd say 74 and 73.:o

The difference between a Cutlass, Cutlass S, Cutlass Salon, and Cutlass Supreme was mainly options, and, of course, price, based on those options.
The rooflines on the S were different than the Salon or Supreme, also. If you look at any of the pics of any 442s on this site, you see they have triangular rear side windows and the roofline is more of a "fastback" design. The Supremes, however, have smaller, trapezoidal rear side windows with more of a "notchback" design. I really don't like using that terminology, as it makes me think of other cars not associated with this site (the F dash dash dash word  ), but I guess it'll work. :D

76 & 77 trunk lids WILL fit on 73-75...i know because my '75 trunk lid lock area was screwed up and i snagged the trunk lid off of my friend's 77 and it fits perfectly.....
the only thing is, of course, that you would have to redrill the holes in the trunk lid for the metal badges that go there because the 76-77 had the decals and not emblems....other than that it works great!

Ok so let me get this straight.........there is a
1)Cutlass
2)Cutlass S
3)Cutlass Salon
4)Cutlass Supreme
???
So I am really sounding like a girl here....When my 442 is all in one piece it looks like Chris' (PSU442) or Todd's (ragz442) (but my interior (when I had one) is black), soooooooo is that an S or a Supreme? and does it matter?
OMG I get so confused!

Okay, relax, inhale, exhale, good. Your 442 is based on the Cutlass S. To be more specific, it is a Cutlass S with the W-29 "442 Appearance and Handling Package". It should have the triangular rear side windows. Interiorwise, it will matter when it comes to the trim pieces. The pieces around the rear windows are not the same. I don't have access to pictures right now, maybe someone else has something that would show this better. Fear not, you are with good people here, and you will be steered in the right direction.

Well I guess that puts this issue to bed. I thought the Hollander was a pretty reliable manual, but it goes against what was put into practice by Larry.

Jen, your upper door panels will have an 'S' in the middle by the pull strap, Cutlass Supremes, Salons, Broughams had a different upper panel, while the 442 had 'S' panels. There's nothing in the interior that denotes the 442 option, it's all 'S' panels [big quarter windows]. The W29 442 appearance and handling package in 76-77 consisted of the paint stripes and numbers, rear decklid decal, and HD springs, shocks and sway bars. No performance gains due to strict smog laws, at least here in the U.S.
Here's a interior pic of my 77-442:

Now your streching it Kevin :D . I don't think they will, but I'm not sure. I do know 76-77 Regal/Century decklids are the same as the 73-77 Cutlass and 76-77 [2dr] Regal doors are the same as the 76-77 [2dr] Cutlass [ I have '76 Regal doors on my Supreme].
Sounds like Larry has ended the decklid debate, so I guess I won't bother swapping them ;) .

just wanted to add a follow up to my post about having to drill the holes for the badges on a 77 trunk lid....you can drill the holes for the badges but you would probably need to drill ones in the underside of the lid so that you have access to put the screw nuts on the back......i did not do this, mainly because the holes i drilled for the badges made the badges fit very tight and there really isn't much chance of them falling out....
now, i DID notice one small difference, in appearance only....the bottom of the 76 & 77 lids had a chrome trim piece that extended out from the center of the bottom edge of the lid about 5 inches or so each direction....my '75 did not have that but it looks very cool with it on there!

Larry, did your friends lid come off a 4 door car? I was looking this up in my GM Parts Catalogue (the book the parts guys used at GM before the computers) and it gives the same part number (9659567 changed to 9846148)for 73-75 and 76 G29 car. The 76 G37 and G57 have a different part number 1704492. So to me it looks like the trunk from a 76 4 door Cutlass will fit 73-75 Cutlasses, but the trunk lid for a 76-77 two door car wil not fit a 73-75 Cutlass. Please confirm.

My 73 has a 76 Surpeme trunk lid on it now. Only thing I found different was where the rubber bump stops are on the trunklid, seems that area is slightly different in shape. I had to find 73 stops as the 76 were to thick, and drill my holes for the chrone strip. Other than that you would never know it was a 76......

yeah, what he said...lol
mine WAS off of a 2 door....i needed to order new trunk stops myself and just ordered ones for a '75....mine fits perfectly....and i did not really notice any difference in the stops area, but then again, my trunk lid is from a 76 442 and is being used on a '75 442, don't know if that makes a difference....
