Hey guys,
Stopped by my local autoparts store to look through their parts books for available parts for the olds 455 from in the day. Basically looking for the pistons and cam choices that one could choose from that were listed for the engine.
Found:
Power forged pistons; 2-5/64, 1-3/16 ring groove, 1.735"cd, .9805 pin diameter, recessed head .142 deep x 2.950" diameter. duoshield skirt coated.
another piston option for high performance: 2-5/64", 1-3/16" ring groove, 1.725" cd, .9806 pin diameter, recessed head .120" deep x 2.940" diameter - 9.75:1
first option didn't list the compression ratio..
For cam I found:
Hi performance; w/4 barrel carb; pro-5000 perf cam hydrualic. Duration at .050: 232 intake, 232 exhaust; valve lift .4740" intake and .4740 exhaust; lobe separation 113 degrees.
Have read that if one goes with other after market pistons, the compression ratio can be hard to go after. Was thinking if I went for parts that were available for this engine back then, the numbers would be a bit more exact.
What do you all think?
Alex
