The plan right now is bright red paint with 15x7 painted wheels with dog dish caps if I can find a set, Also I have a 442 hood so Im thinking about making a 442 Wagon what do you guys think??? always open to other ideas thanks Doug

Of course you need the 442 hood! It needs swivel buckets and a console too! I was outbid on **bay two years ago on a '74 wagon and haven't been able to find another one close by since.

Firethorne77
11-24-2009, 09:31 PM
I second the swivel buckets and console... if you want to do it.
I know converting the column shift to floor can be time consuming and a bit of a challenge.
I like the dog dish caps, or poverty covers. That would look great.
What color is the interior going to be'?
And my only suggestion would be to tint those big glass windows .. Make it look cool
Wagon's kick ass...!

Pete,
The wagon has perfect tan interior so I dont want to mess with it to much but I must admit this color change is taking longer than I thought lots of door jambs to paint but I hope the finished product is worth the trouble time will tell . Doug

anybody got a set of dog dish caps for sale???????????

Welcome Doug. Was this the low milage car that was on ebay from Wis. I think ?

stocker2038
11-28-2009, 05:18 PM
Yes it is the car had a couple of rust issues but we have taken care of those I drove it home from wis with no problems just a lot of thumbs up from people passing by.

W451973
12-01-2009, 05:52 PM
Cool. As little as my vote may count I say stay with the original brown. Add a 442 front end and rally wheels. I do have a set of poverty caps buried in storage. But they are buried and I don't know how soon I'll be able to get back to them. They are way back in the back with Joe's header panel. Post some some pics. Did you also get all the extra NOS stuff with the car ?

stocker2038
12-01-2009, 09:27 PM
With the high price of red paint it may stay brown. Yes I got everything except the 1/4 panel He said He could not find it in his storage unit but I got everything else.
Thanks Doug

Maroon with silver looks good, Colonnial cream with black would match the interior well. I tend to like the original colors I'd problably stay with brown. Then again I really like Maroon and silver together...good luck with it, should be nice when it's done.

Doug-
How bad is the cost of the red paint you are looking at?

GM has a Dark Mocha Metallic that came out last year on some models. It looks real good.

I know when I went with the Firethorne Irid Metallic back in '06, it cost me about $300 per gal. for just the paint if I am right??? getting foggy on that as time passes.
Now the reducers and the clear will cost you another $200.

It really depends on what brand you are going with. I used a company called " ICI ".
One of the auto vendors recommended them and that was the only paint that came close to matching the code on my car. THat was after I had Dupont and PPG mixes made up to test spray on some sanded primed panels to see what it would turn out like.
Now.. Its as close as today's color codes will be.

You could get that Mocha Metallic from PPG or another provider for less than the red.
I asked a few of my body shop buddies, and it shouldnt set you back more than $300-$400 per gal.

Now I am sure others out here would give you some places to call to get better prices on paint, clear and reducers.

Keystone was the vendor I used for the materials.

Let me know what you do.

Brown and Green would be cheaper than the red. But if your idea for the project was RED.. then find a way to do it the way you wanted it!!

By the way... The 442 nose... Now that is the shit!. Great idea there:cool:

I'm kinda fond of cinammin poly #66 not really brown, not really orange. goes well with the saddle (tan) interior also. I've got some pics on here.

W451973
12-12-2009, 01:24 PM
I say stick to the original brown. It will cheaper and easier to paint because you won't have to do so much work in the door jambs. Plus red is just plain boring. How about posting some pics ?

My friend Doug in LaFayette, GA with the 73 Cutlass S told me about your car. That's cool you bought the wagon. I had lost track of it. I still thought it was in Chicago! :o Anyway, I think a 442 wagon would be very cool! It would be very sharp with the 442 front end, emblems, and stripes. I like bright red but it's overdone. How about a darker metallic red or maroon? I also like white, or some of the pearl white colors, and also black. Not sure if you'd want a black car in the Georgia summer heat! The cinnamon brown is a decent color too. All those colors would go well with the tan interior. Keep us posted on the progress and the pics so far look great!

Not going to make it. My daughter is getting married on the 7th so we have rehersal on the 6th. Going to miss the whole thing. I started to protest but did'nt think it would do any good. On the plus side they finished my shop, or at least it is all under roof now. still have to do the floor and sides. But she wants to use it for the reception instead of renting a tent. So thats some cash still in my pocket.

Doug,
Looking forward to a cruise in at the Fort let me know if you hear the date of the first one.

Doug,

They are always held the third Saturday of every month from March through October. The first one will be March 17th. Officially starts at 4pm on LaFayette Road in the vicinity of where the old McDonalds was located down to the traffic light at Long John Silvers. Cars usually start arriving as early as 3pm. On a good weather day as many as 150 - 200 cars will show up. If the weather is good I plan to be there on the 17th. Hope to see you there!

Hey buddy, not a problem. I still need a total for the mats and shipping everything. And how do you want to be paid ? Still working on getting the tailgate. It may take a while.
