I have a 1973 442 with an 8-track player. I had a radio guy (REPAIR) it. The stations come in clear and it plays pritty clear.(for 1973 that is) but the tape player needs to be alligned. Here is the real problem. It will not eject the tape. I am looking for someone to fix it. Any help?

I'm an audio guy and may be able to help. Questions...

1) Do the tapes play when inserted?
2) Is there ANY way to get the tapes out?
3) When you push the eject button, does the tape stop playing?
4) When you push eject, do you feel resistance, like the spring behind it is in place?
5) If you push eject, do you hear any mechanical noises coming from inside the deck? Like it's TRYing to do something?

Does anyone sale the belts for the gm 8-tracks? Mine is in a 75 Cutlass.

1. Yes the tape plays but not very well Track select kinda works 2. I can pull the tape out. Eject will not work 3. Yes it does stop 4. No resistence when I push the eject button 5. No mech. noise when I push the button 6. A new belt was installed when it was cleaned.

OK, I think what you're saying is that the tapes come right out... you can pull it gently and it slides out and stops playing. If so, then your entire eject mechanism needs replaced (but you probably knew that), and unfortunately you'll have to send it out for that. I assume the eject spring is broken or fell out during the previous repair. And since the whole mechanism is so complicated (much moreso than a cassette unit), you're kind of stuck.
I don't know if you're near Kalamazoo, but there was a place (Bill's Audio?) on their main drag that did good work.

It might be cooler looking, or simpler, or cheaper, to invest in a Pioneer "Super-Radio" from the late 70s with and 8-track built-in. They also made cassette units. Just a thought if repair is too costly or not in the cards. 1978 GM/Delco cassette units will fit our cars, too.

I've used Factory Service Center here in the Dallas area for over 20 years to have electronics repaired. They fixed my digital H/O tach, my Marantz home stereo with original Marantz parts, a couple of Becker Mercedes Benz tape deck radios and a couple of GM 8 track AM/FM radios. The owner, Len, has been in business since before our 8 tracks were new so he knows how to work on them. You can ship your radio to him. Here is a link to his eBay home page and you can use it to contact him.

Good luck.
