UPDATED: LOOKING FOR CORRECT ORINGINAL PART NUMBERS FOR STARTER PLEASE!

Anyone have a good starter replacement ?

The A/C Declo one I got from the dealer did not fit correctly, brought it back and now they are searching for one.

In the mean time, I want a good long lasting starter. Any ideas?

Obviously its for the factory 350v8, R motor. '77 year.

Any suggestions would be helpful.. with LINKS or PART NUMBERS TOO.

Thanks
Pete

The AutoZone here has one here for $50.00 with a $15. core. Lifetime warranty. You should be able to match that at most major parts places.

Thank you to those who replied.

Now an update on my lovely starter saga. No matter where I go, GM, aftermarket.. I am having trouble getting the right starter for my car.

The starter obviously is on the driver's side of the motor and every starter that I get has been incorrect with the nose gear application.
Further more, the bolt alignment has been comming thru offset.
Mine are directly opposed from one another.

Now this should be an easy project, but is quickly becomming a pain in the ass due to vendors not getting me the correct starter.
The starter in my car is an aftermarket from AutoZone back in '94.
I am getting nowhere with GM and ref. numbers. All aftermarkets are scratching their heads.
Wondering if they are using a diesl motor for referece?

Any how, I had someone ask me if the motor is the original, and I promtly discussed with them that the motor is indeed orginal with matching numbers.
The only non matching number part besides wearable items attached to the motor was a replacement carb date coded from 1980.

So.. any suggestions? I am not keen on a mini starter unless that is the only way to go.

I'd like some numbers if anyone has original Ac/Delco GM numbers from '77 for starters.
Then I can go back to the dealer and cross ref. them.

Thank you very much.
Pete

Sounds like you are getting a Toronado or Chevy starter. I have found that when the computer is wrong at a chain store, you have to fool it. In my case the computer at Advance auto was coming up with the wrong fuel pump for a '69 Vista. I told the kid to reference a '71 455 w/air as I knew it would be correct with fuel return. He didn't want to do it, but eventually he brought that number out and Tada! I went on my way.

How about getting the one you have rebuilt?
I had my starter and alternator rebuilt at a local in my area for 140.00

Have them look up one for a 75 350. I work auto parts, and we some times need to go back or forth one or two years to get the correct part. Especially on the older cars. For example the AZ computer asks for high or low beam on headlights on my 73, but for 74 it is correct. Good Luck.

I can't believe you are having that much trouble getting a starter. I mix 'n match mine all the time. They were all the same for several years and all mine have the bolts straight across. I think the staggered ones may have been for the 307 but I'm not positive. I'll bet if you get a starter for a '76 Cadillac Seville it will fit. Like 73CS said, try some different years and you should come up with the right one eventually. I have my best luck with NAPA.

Want to fix the problem quick, rebuild the one that came off the car. It's easy. go to your local starter shop and get a NEW armature. Thats the main problem when a starter goes. Shorts in the armature. If you do find the right starter and the bolt holes are correct but the nose cone is not then change the nose cone. If your going to rebuild it make sure to put NEW parts in it. Do not put a rebuilt armature in it.

Out of the 1976-1981 Oldsmobile parts catalog-1109022 Gr.2.041 motor,starter(new) 1976-79 260,350R 403 455 (all except E) and 1980 350R. 80-81 307/260 has a different part #. 1894144 Gr.2.047 is a reman. starter for the same app. Hope this helps.

Jerrad-
Thank you . I appreciate the original part numbers. I will call my buddy at the Gm dealer have him cross reference down from the original number.
I want Ac/Delco and this is helpful.

Otherwise, as people have suggested, I might rebuild the one in the car, but might go with a Powermaster to eliminate the occational heat sink problems.

Thanks

Hello,

I am new here. From reading around I have decided that I would like to purchase an AK from Arsenal but I dont know which one. I am new and this would be my first AK. So what would be a good starter.
