I have 76 442 for sale. It has the 455 engine in it, 1 of 143 made that year. It has rust around the quarters, the drivers side floor pan need replacing, frame is solid, trunk is pretty solid but will probably need to be replaced?? The interior is all there but will need some work. it has the usual 442 options. It is an automatic, air car but he A/C compressor is gone.
The car runs and drives but it doesn't have brakes.
Contact me for pictures if you are interested.
Thanks!

I am located in Madison WI. Price is a good question, I will start at $2500 and see what you think.
Also, it hasn't been licensed on the road since 86, the odometer reads 86,xxx and I would tend to believe it is pretty accurate.
Somthing happened to the pictures after I posted them... any ideas? these are the only ones I have right now, I will try and get some more this weekend. I had to edit them down to get them this size but the entire car was in the picture???

From the pics it looks pretty rough, but restorable. If it wasn't an original BB car than I would say no. I don't need another project, so I'm not interested. Just thoughts/comments from the peanut gallery :D .
But then again, I redid a plain jane Cutlass Supreme that wasn't in much better shape, so what the hell am I talking about. That "sentimental value" is some powerful stuff :o  :D .

Regarding the price. I suppose it depends on where you are. A car in that shape and age would get up to $500 here BB or not. Of course in Eastern Canada where they salt the roads like corn on the cob at the local fair, $2500 would seem reasonable for a 31year old car in that shape.
Having siad that, I own an original BB car but have never seen another 76 442BB car in person. :(

It does have the "T" in the VIN correct? Is it number matching to the block ect.? I to am up to my wallet in projects but would like to find this one a home. Any reason you are not taking it on? As you stated this is rare.

Hi All,
Sorry for not getting back sooner... my daughter had surgery on her elbow two weeks ago so prioritys have changed for the time being. She is doing fine, just had to focus time and efforts else where... :)
Here is the VIN number for the car: 3G37T6M394981. I checked it on one of the links off the main web page where someone created a VIN checker program. It came back as a 455 car...
I am selling because this is the car that I am least attached to. I haven't had it that long and if I keep it I will have to sleep in it shortly...
So, let me know if you can find it a good home...
Also, here is a question for Ken, I was sent an e-mail from someone who stated there were two engnine types for the 455 in 76, one with high horsepower (dual snorkel air cleaner like yours) and one with the single snorkle like mine and that mine would be more common, any truth to that???
If anyone else knows or can help please let me know...
Thanks
Rob
P.S. I have the trim tag and some interior pics if anyone is interested.

Rob
The book I have shows 4 different engine codes for the '76 455.
All have 8.5:1 comp.
code UE - 4 BC auto
code UD - 4 BC auto...A/C
code VE - 4 BC auto...CALIF
code VD - 4 BC auto...A/C/CALIF
all having 190HP, code T in the VIN
The book also says that the 442 455's have the letter J on the heads.
Something else though, the option codes show option L74 as 8-cyl.,4 BC, 455 cid (Hi-Compression).
Hope this helps
Joe

Hi Rob,
There was only one 455 option for the Cutlass S in 1976 and that was L74. There were no dual snorkel cars (unless you did what I did).:D There were other 455's (Toronado, Marine etc.) Compression was 8.5:1 (California cars may have differed)
Of the 9,576 442's built in 1976 there were 1,316 shipped to Canada. Of that about 25 were 455 cars. That means 8,260 442's were in the US. Of that, 118 cars were 455's. You have one of the 118. I only know of 6 cars that are still out there (including yours and mine).
1976 442 with "T" in the VIN:
Survivors:
Two in GA.
One in TX.
One in ID.
One in WI. (Yours)
One in AB. (mine)
Anyone know of any others?

By "thingy" I assume you mean the VIN tag. So I guess it's gone to 442 Heaven and is not the Red and Black 76 in the registry?

The red and black one in the reg. is mine. I also had a silver and black one but it is gone to 442 heaven. I found a silver and black one in Tn with a 455 but the guy didnt know if it was org. or not he got it from a guy that owed him some money it had been rebuilt and then the shop wouldnt warranty the rebuild. He wanted 900$ I think it needed a windshield from where some kids got in his lot and kicked the windshield out. I should try to find his info and go look at it.

Hello Everyone!
You will all be happy to know that I have found a new home for the 76 442.
A person from Delaware has picked it up and has plans to restore the car back to pristene shape. The person has a body shope lined up and hopes the have the car done by spring. He is going to keep me posted with pics of the restoration so I can post them out here if you would like.
Thanks to all the helped me with information!
Rob
