never seen this before:confused:
it's on the 75 442 parts car i just got.
my other 75 442 doesn't have it.(identical cars )
looks to be a factory install ( same type wire loom and connectors as other oem wiring ).

I friend has a 1974 corvette. It also has the same switch, pritty bad shape and the parts guy said good luck finding a new one. We took it apart and it looks like a set of points in it. ?????????

I think my 74 H/O has that and it may be from the alarm??? I have to check the engine bay again. The car is put away right now.

Very interesting. It must be a starter relay ??? It looks like it has large wires going into it. Maybe it kicks out if somebody cranks the starter too long. I wouldn't have thought it was factory but other people have seen the same thing so I guess it is. Cool.

That is for the starter interlock system which works with the seatbelt. GM introduced that system so that the driver would have to buckle up before starting the engine. If the driver was'nt buckled when the key was turned, no signal to the starter. If that happened you would have to press that button to allow the engine to start.
GM started using them in 74, but so many people hated it (and bypassed the system) that it was quietly dropped sometime during the 75 model year.

I remember my mom's '74 Buick Electra had oneof those, I also disabled it. Was better than sitting on the buckled belt, previous owner had it buckled for so long it didnt want to come apart.
