Hi All,
I've been lurking here for a few weeks and finally have some time to introduce myself. The names John and I live in Southern New Hampshire. I recently (last fall) purchased a '75 Olds Cutlass Salon for $750.00 from a friend who is going through a divorce. He had the car for 2 years, after buying it from the son of the original (elderly) owner. The car had sat inside a garage for over 10 years, and had only 61,000 miles on it. Very good condition, with only a small amount of rust (no rot) on the car. A fairly basic strippr model, although it is a coupe with the Olds 350 4 barrel and bucket seats/console. Its also a rather ugly yellow-cream color with a beige vinyl top. This is my second Olds, my 1st was a '77 Cutlass S that I owned 10 years ago. It was a typical New England car with lots of rust, so I only had it for a couple of years.
I'll try to post some pictures soon.

Welcome, I like you car's color combo, that's not such an ugly car. I had a friend who had a 73 Supreme with a 455 and that same color combo when we were in high school. He had a minor fender bender that broke out the driver's headlight and didn't have it fixed for 6 months while he saved the money up to repair it. It became known as the one eyed bandit by everyone at our highschool. I sold him the sport wheel from my 74 Hurst Olds after I wrecked it, and then 2 weeks later a so called friend stole that 73 and drove it to Rochester, New York. Never saw it again.
Well maybe it wouldn't be my first color choice but I sure have good memories of that 73 smokin' the hides for blocks on Beltline Road in Richardson, Texas. My 350 powered 74 H/O couldn't touch it.

But its definately not an "exciting" color. The car came with 3 stock hubcaps and whitewall tires, I've since replaced them with a set of chrome SS-111's from a mid-80s Cutlass and 235-60-R15 white letter tires. That made a big difference in the "look" of the car. I also started buffing out the paint yesterday, and it actually has a shine to it now. One mystery was that someone had touched up a big area of the front right fender with what looks like a spray can, and it did not match very well. While trying to blend it in I started to remove the sparay paint, and found the paint undamaged underneath. Seems that there was some sort of staining that they tried to cover with paint. Took some time, but I buffed off both the paint and the stain and it looks much better.

Welcome to the site John! That beige/cream color doesn't look too bad when it's shined up.

Assuming I can actually upload these, this is what my '75 looked like when I brought it home. Note the nose high look. It has new springs all around, but the fronts seem too long. I have since put in airbags, which help, but I want to lower the nose a few inches. I'll try to take a set with the new rims and tires this week.

Nice loooking ride, the front does look high though, did you put big block springs up front? I'd put some 2" cups in the rear to level it out.

Welcome to the group John, Nice ride, let us know and see how the buff out goes. Some Olds wheels would definantly set it off.

Those wheels make that car. They really look good and pick up the chrome side mirror too. I usually don't like the entry level mirror but it looks good with the chrome wheels. I see in your profile that you, sir, are a fire captain. The little 6 year old still living somewhere deep in side me is jealous. What little kid (well boys anyway) didn't want to be a fireman at some point in time? Got any pictures of the trucks? Do you guys have a dalmation? (that was the 6 year old talking) The more people that join this site, the better it gets.

Thanks for the comments guys, I learned a long time ago that the quickest way to improve the looks of any car was to put on a nice wheel and tire set.
I do have a set of sport mirrors to replace the chrome one, mainly because I can't stand not having a right side mirror. I just got the color matched piant, so I should be able to put them on soon.
Thanks for the kind words, Texx, I do enjoy my job. I actually just switched to a full time captain a few years ago, I used to be an engineer in the defense (late '80's) and computer chip industry. I spent some time in Austin back in '02 when I was working as a field service engineer for Tokyo Electron. I was recruited by my towns call (part-time) department in '98 and found out I loved firefighting. When the chip industry started downhill, (thanks to everything being made in China) I jumped over a full time career. Best move I ever made. And no, we do not have a Dalmation. We do have some pictures of the trucks, on our website.
