My '76 has the remains of the air conditioning on the firewall. Will a non air heater box bolt up in the same location?

It won't.

You need an aftermarket A/C delete box.

Thanks, didn't look like it would. The car will have to keep what it has, $200. plus all different dash controls is too rich for my blood!
