Better Off Dead was typical 80's cheese. Good old John Cusack...this movie makes me laugh even harder today then when I first saw it. If you do watch it, note that you won't get your 1 1/2 hours of your life back, but it still pretty amusing. I spent much of my earlier days quoting many parts of this movie. "I want my two dollars!!"

Two brothers... One speaks no English, the other learned English from watching "The Wide World of Sports." So you tell me... Which is better, speaking no English at all, or speaking Howard Cosell?

"I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy. I know high school girls. "

And the "Two Dollars" quote.. cemented into my brain!

Google.. " Better off Dead" and you'll see a cool site about the Camaro in that movie, how it was found and fixed. Read about a few years ago and its still got its own site today.

That was the first movie I saw that had a ricer car in it. I still die laughing every time I watch it. "One Crazy Summer" was pretty good for laughs too (for 80s cheese, anyway).

One of my young hotrodder friends has a 69 Camaro that I helped him with a lot when he was in high school. The car was kinda slow back then and he took a lot of crap about it, until I worked magic for him- with the stipulation that he not tell anyone who helped him do the cam/intake/carb and distributor work. The car went from a 15 second slug to high 13's, which was enough to shut the street peanut gallery up.

I bought him a Thorogood CD for his birthday, which incidentally was about time we did the work, and told him to play "Bad to the Bone" when he brought the car out. At that time he'd never seen BOD and wanted to know why I wanted him to do that. I said "you'll see."

Well, he stomped a Mustang that had especially given him shyt, and then a 90's Camaro owned by a really obnoxious rich kid who couldn't have turned his own wrenches if his life depended on it. So all of a sudden the little blue Camaro had some cred.

He stayed over one night we were fine-tuning the car, so I sprung for a pizza and went and rented BOD. Well, the Camaro naturally perked up his ears, and when it was finished and stomped the ricer to "Bad to the Bone", you never saw such a grin. "I understand why you wanted me to play that now!"
