I'm looking for a 442 '76 or '77 for a couple of months now without any success now. Must be rust free or very little, having a bucket, console interior and in Canada ( Ontario and Eastern province). The rest doesn't matter. :)

Thanks

Finding one of these is going to be difficult but not impossible. Rust free in Eastern Canada....that makes it tough. It would be easier looking to the Western provinces, not much easier but easier than the east.

You shouldn't rule out the US. 90% of these cars stayed there. Only 1316 442's came to Canada in 1976, I'm not sure about 1977 442's. The best thing to do is to join an Oldsmobile club. Joining the OCA and picking up a copy of Hemmings Motor News will help a lot too. You can even join my club. We've had these cars for sale in our classifieds section of our 26 page magazine.

Also take into account that 9,576 442's were built in 1976. 11,649 442's were built in 1977. After 30 years how many do you think still survive? If you find someone willing to sell, then the car won't be perfect (rust free) If you find on that is rust free (like many here) the owner will most likely not part with it (unless you offer more than the cars value). Some people may need cash and have a great car - be ready. The people that own these cars either have plans for them or have restored the cars.

People own older cars for two reasons. 1. they love the car, and the look of it. 2. they have an investment and want to know that they can make big money by selling it if they had to.

With the 1976/77 442 people who've kept these cars and restored (or are planning to restore) them did so for other reasons. They know they'll never get rich selling one (unless it's been dipped in gold). It's beyond the monetary thing. It's pure love.

Keep watching this site. There was a beautiful 1977 Mandarin coloured 442 for sale last week. It went in a day and for a resonable price. Have your money ready. There are still deals to be had. Good luck.

You're right when you say "It's pure love" about restoring these cars. One of my first car was a '77 Cutlass ( whit a 231 V6 :o ) and in 1993 I bought another one I kept for 13 years but had to sell for some reasons :( Now, I'm ready to buy another one but it have to be a 442  . I'm going to see one next week, it's a blue '76 442 (like your's) at 8h from me but it's suppose to be rust free, complete but in need of restoration. It, already, have a 455 instead of the 350, new skins on the swivel seats, rally dash . and both bumpers are in good shape. I don't care about matching # because as you said, these are not top dollar cars. The most important thing, for me, is the body. I saw one last month that has enough plastic on it to built a Corvette... To car looks very nice but both bumpers has cheap chrome tapes to mask holes and thick undercoating everywhere. Anyway, he was asking 5K for the car. I will let you know next week about the 442!

Here is a picture of the Cutlass I had:

Great. Don't forget to take pictures and show us. :) Good luck.

PS. I see you are in Quebec. I noticed there was no front plate and a For Sale sign in French.

:( Well! The trip was useless. I don't know if it is me but the word "SOLID" doesn't mean the same for anyones? That's the 2nd one I saw (one in Quebec and one in Ontario) and both were full of bondo + they hid and lied on lots a things I ask before getting there  Anyway, I think I'm gonna look in the US to make sure I found a good one with no rust. Still looking

Sorry to hear that. Eastern US could be the same as Eastern Canada (same weather unless you go south). Keep checking this forum. Something always pops up.

That car looks like a pretty good project car. The clueless owner thinks the 403 is a Chevy motor. If that is the original engine it is one of only 350 factory equipped 403 1977 442s.

Yea I noticed what he said about the 403. That's pretty low production numbers, to bad the pics are so far away.

Good luck on your search, once you have had one there is no replacement you just always want another!

If you need me to go have a look see, let me know. Not to far away maybe an hour. I could use a good cruise up the Sea to Sky Hiway. You guy would not believe the view on that route. One of the finest in the world. Sheer mountains cliffs on one side and the Pacific ocean on the other. Winds all the way to Whistler ski resort, absolutely beautiful!
cheers, Mike

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I finally found one in good condition and i think it is a great one :D That's a 1977 442 with a 403! The car is all original and in good shape. It come with all the papers and with the built sheet found under the bench seat when the owner replaced it with swiver bucket (why the hell, people order a 442 with a bench and colomn shift?) Anyway, as soon as the car's in my driveway, I will take some pics for you. The car is red and white

Nice job on your persistence! Looks like it paid off. 403 cars are always a good find. Bench seat, column shift cars are pretty rare.

The guy said that the car have some rust around the wheel well and on quarters + the bumpers are not good. Anyway, it is too far from here ( over 4000 kms) to be a good deal, even if it is a 403 442.

Bienvenue et Merci. My memories of Quebec are good ones, whether in French or English. I love getting back to Montreal for the food, walks on the mountain, the culture and Ste. Catherine Street late at night. Such a big city and so safe. Probably because everyone is out at all hours.

BTW, Gary (Zodiacblue442) was looking for a brochure for the 1973 Cutlass "en Francais". If you find one at a swap meet let him know. He's a good guy.
