In 1987 I had my 75 painted, in doing so I removed all emblems from the car. I thought the fins on the fenders of my supreme were clunky and they were pitting anyway. I also changed the taillight extentions with some from a 74 "S" model. The only emblem I left was the Oldsmobile script on the grill. It turned out great, very smooth and clean looking. I have never been a fan of cutting up a really rare car, always felt you could take a base model for major customizing and not lose one of the few limited number cars. On another note, If you are not chopping or tubbing most mods could be undone if the desire hits. I think the colors you mention could look real cool, maybe some brush alum wheels? Tint winows? That could be an awsome cruise night ride. In all its your ride, your passion, your tastes and that is what makes this hobby great. Good luck keep posted.

My 75 has beeen relieved of all exterior badging(except for the grill. It is silver with black 442 stripes. I love it! It is a very unusual look for a Cutlass Supreme. Good luck with your project!:)

i think that color combo will be pretty sweet... before i got my '77, my heart was set on owning a 68-72 cutlass/442 that exact color... it'll look just as great on a '75 (which I think is the most aggressive looking year of the 73-77s.)

I was always a fan of keeping things original. I've tried to do that as much as I can with my cars. I can't tell someone what to do with their car. It's their car!! Some things look good on certain vehicles, others not so much. For example, my brother owns a heavily modded '98 S-10. He shaved everything. Door handles, 3rd brake light, fuel door (while relocating to inside the bed) entire tailgate while installing 92 Cadillac Sedan Deville taillights. Belltech 4-6" drop kit, American Racing 17" Salt flat rims with 275/40 ZR17 BFG Comp T/As. To top it all off, he painted the whole thing flat black. It looks sinister.
Check it out here if you wish.

It is one hell of a performer, and will easily keep up with or outhandle many vehicles, most of which have significantly higher sticker prices, which I have seen piss off their respective owners quite a bit. But the bottom line is...it's an S-10. A dime a dozen S-10. You have a 442. I know in central NY where I am, most of them rotted away years ago. I see less and less of them around up here. I'd keep it original. But that's just me, and I share the love either way. If you do decide to shave stuff, and change the paint scheme, I think it'll still look good, because dammit it's a 442 and how CAN'T it look good? But save everything...just in case. Best of luck bro.

Hey, it's all about what you like, and what you want to do with and/or to your car. That's what's great about the hobby.

Now, if you're out to score trophies and people's choice awards, just stay away from big meets with national clubs like the Olds Club of America; don't even get me started on the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society). I belong to both organizations and I like the people I interact with at local/national meets, however these crowds tend to be predominantly purists and can be real flippant with passing comments on non-stock cars.

I like original cars now (at 44), but back in the day I dabbled with lot of cool stuff (Nitrous when it is was a curiosity on street cars in the late 70's), custom paint, interiors..the full monty.

I say, just have fun, try to impress only yourself and let err roll!

I can appreciate a good looking custom street machine. However with your car being a 442 (I got the idea it's a `75) it has a low production run. If it is a `75 442, that is the rarest (lowest number produced) of the `73-`77's. Also take into account how many got driven into the ground and junked, hot rodded and wrecked, turned into dirt track cars or drag strip cars, etc. and there aren't many around any more. No doubt, it would make a wicked custom street machine, but I just don't think I'd do it with this car. Restore it stock and the value of the car will be much higher. It's your car though. If you are planning on keeping the car forever then value doesn't matter. Have fun with your project and keep us posted!

I have a 75 Supreme that has all the badges removed, except for the grill. It is silver with black 442 stripes. I LOVE the way it looks! To each his own. Good luck with your project!

I had a friend who had a 73 Camaro that he painted a medium to dark gunmetal gray metallic with black SS stripes in the factory style and painted the SS, Z/28 wheels black. It had tinted windows as dark as the state of Texas allows. It really looked great. I think the silver and black on your car would look nice. I might shave some emblems but I'd leave the door handles and marker lights.

Emblems can go, I'd leave handles/etc. Marker lights are there for a reason, I hate to say.

Also, as for color, go nuts.. but do the factory style stripe, whatever you do. Make it look like it *could* have come that color.
