I think the correct factory tire size in today's measurement for the 442 is
P235 70R 15. Agree? Disagree?

Ken, the proper tire size is 225-70x15, it replaces the orig GR-70x15 size. I have a almost new set of 235-70x15 BFG T/A's on the car and they are too tall. BFG and Uniroyal are out of the 225-70x15 till later this summer, as I have called the factory to confirm this.

Jim,
I was looking around today on the net and I believe you are right. The G70 was 27.5" diameter while the P225 70 is 27.4". Mine are 26.10", too small. I went P235 60R 15. My Vette has 255 60X15 Goodyear Eagle 1 Nascar tires:

The 442 has 15 year old Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS

For the `73 442 the tire size was G-70x14. This was also the std. size for `74 442. In `74, 15" wheels/tires were an option, and I think std. in `75, `76, and `77. I've got P235/70R15 Goodyear Eagle GTII's on my `73 442 and like them alot. They fill up the wheel wells nice but aren't so overly large that they look out of place. I "did the math" and figured out what speedometer drive and driven gears I would need with that size tire and rear end gear ratio so my speedometer and odometer would read correctly. Looks like my engineering degree paid off after all! :D My brother had P225/70R15 BFG Radial TA's on his `77 442 and that was a great tire also. That's the size I have on my `74 Supreme too. I think the mid `70's Cutlasses are too big and heavy for 14" tires. Can't really figure out why GM would put 14's on a 4,000+ pound car.

Ya Gary, 14's are just too small. I've got 2356015 up front and 2756015 in the rear of the 442, and 2456015 all around on the Supreme.

Here is a tire calculator we can use. I went to Coker.com to get the spec's for the G70 and used this calculator to figure the proper(?)...factory size, or as close as I could get.
